This is not a thread to start a bunch of flaming just stating a record that is a fairly amazing achievement for a rookie selected behind two other backs. 434 yards by any back over a three game span is quite a series. I think we as dolphans want to justify that the back we took is better but no matter you cannot take away his achievement and he could be as good a runningback as any rookie ever was.

Since Ronnie will forever be linked to Caddy I will comment on Ronnie's performance. I think the big play will help his confidence and this game was much like Caddy's first game. We definately drafted a good back possibly not the best back but the bust talk was way too premature. I think we as fans are pretty cynical I have even heard the reason for Brown struggling was bad line versus Caddy's great line. Neither us or Tampa have a line to brag on so both of these backs deserve every yard they get. Hell some will say Benson is a bust since he has not played much but I suspect there will be three very good backs that were all drafted in the first round when all is said and done.I just cant wait for two things Ricky's return and the actual chance of developing a future quarterback without having to kill our cap with another high draft pick. One of these is on the horizon hmm the other oh well the same thing we have said since about the year 1995 maybe next year.

Great game by Carnell but Grudes has to get his carries down to around 20-25. Pitt, Allstott and Ernest Graham should be getting more carries to keep Carnell fresh.(IMHO)

I think part of Caddy's early success, is not just that he is very committed and came to camp on time. But, also, Gruden wants to run the ball alot and they have a passing attack which keeps defenses balanced and honest.

Also, look at who they've played. Vikings? Packers? Bills (just gave up over 200+ rushing yards to the falcons)? Not exactly top notch run defenses.

Its not a matter of RB or Caddy. You must factor many things into this. Gruden being a great X and O offensive minded HC. The passing attack the bucs have, their competition, etc.

We'll see who has more yards at the end of the year.

More yards between Carnell and WHO?? If Cadillac stays health there isn't much chance of Ronnie Brown catching him so you must be talking about another back, right?

Why is that? He's not going to rush for 100+ every game. May not have more rushing but I bet RB has more all purpose yards.

I think the more accurate comparison is which team has the most yards rushing. Ronnie will be the inside tough threat while Ricky will bounce them outside and be gone. That kind of attack keeps defenses off balance. We didn't need another scat back like Caddy (or Ricky). We needed and got the tough inside runner who can catch and block. We got what we wanted, the Bucs got what they wanted.

Ok, you did say 'more yards' not 'more rushing yards' so I'll concede that RB will certainly have more receiving yards that Carnell. But splitting time and carries with Ricky (who will catch some passes as well) and Morris (who will likely stay in the game plan) will take touches away from Brown. Also with Saban's offensive game plan I think he likes to go more vertical once the running game is going. He'll be looking to get the safties to creep up on run support and then go over the top to Chambers and McMichaels. If the O-Line holds up, I don't think there will be as many dump offs to the Backs as you think.

Ronnie will catch him sometime after week 11 or 12, when Caddy starts breaking down after 400+ carries.

Anyone at this point who is still calling Caddy a scat back hasn't seen the Bucs play yet. Thats not a shot at you, I'm just saing that Carnell isn't getting his yards on sweeps and tosses. His is pounding up the middle and breaking tackles* for positive yards. That said, I do think the Bucs need to start getting Williams to the edges and let him work in space because, frankly, I have yet to see that elusiveness that everyone raves about. Right now this Cadillac is a four wheel drive Escellade. If nothing else we really need to get Mike Allstott going to keep Carnell fresh and punish those LBs and safties.

Again...

If Carnell does dtart to break down late then all bets are off. But if he holds up and Pitt and A-Train get some touches I see Caddy breaking Jamal Lewis's rookie record with 1700+.
