In two seasons he has missed 8 kicks a year for a total of 16 missed kicks the last two years.

Dan Bailey of the cowboys has missed 13 kicks in 4 years.

Gostkowski missed 16 in 4 years.

Dan Carpenter has 7 missed kicks in the two years with buffalo.

Steven Haushka has 16 missed kicks in 4 years with seattle.

Adam Vinatieri has missed 16 kicks in the last 4 years.

Matt Bryant has missed 13 in the last 4 years.

Shane Suisham has missed 16 kicks in the last 4 years.

Justin Tucker had missed 11 in 3 years.

Mike Nugent has missed 20 in the last 4 years.

Basically Caleb Sturgis misses twice as many kicks than alot of other kickers in the league. Im sure theres alot more who have similar numbers to the guys i posted but the rate sturgis is missing kicks is unacceptable. Does anybody here think Sturgis wouldve made that game tying kick that crosby kicked from 48 yesterday??? I sure as hell dont. Sturgis NEEDS to be replaced this offseason.

Thanks Jeff -- one of the few positions where there was not a need and you managed to create another one.

If you are going to compare you need to put in the number of attempts or the stats don't mean alot IMO. We kick alot of FG's, so he may have more misses than a player on a team who scores more Td than FG's

He still sucks.

Good to know but it actually doesn't mean anything without taking into account total kicks. Average of misses vs. total kicks would be more informative. Even then you would have to take distance into account. Either way, I would expect Sturgis to still rank as below average. Factoring in his inability to put the ball deep on kick-offs and I do not expect him to be on the roster game 1 this year.

Most of the guys i posted have attempted about the same...some more, some less, some the same but this year sturgis was tied for 3rd with like 5 other guys. Last season he was 12th in attempts. Last season sturgis was 29th in percentage. This year he was ranked 30th in percentage. Theres no defending sturgis' misses i dont care how many attempts he has.

when i saw Sturgis hit a 53 yarder clean and it land 2 yards short I was shocked...That is low level college length

Guy is terrible. The field goals he misses are bad. However, this guy has trouble getting touchbacks in a league where every rule is in place for getting the ball out of the end zone.

I still don't understand how he is on this roster.

There was 10 kickers this year with 10 or more attempts from 40-49 and he tied nick folk and steven haushka for most misses with 4 and both of them, had more attempts than, sturgis.

Sturgis had 6 attempts from 50+ and there was 12 guys with the same or more attempts. There was only one guy who had a worst percentage and that was justin Tucker .

Sturgis seem pretty good inside the 40, but after that it is hit or miss from outside the 40. Of all his misses the only one that has really hurt us is the one he kicked into the line in Foxboro this year. We have overcome the rest.

The out of bounds kick off vs Baltimore in his rookie year certainly put them in position to beat us. I think he missed a 40 yarder in that game as well.

Ask yourselves this. Are you confident when our kicker comes in ? I for one am not.

Most kickers are good from inside the 40...thats why its considered a chip shot for an nfl kicker.
