We've missed 4 FG in the last three losses. 11 for 15 so far
i know most were over 50 yards but after being perfect the preseason and first three games what happened ?

It seemed to start with the ill timed bad kickoff that gave the Raven the ball at the 40 from where they drove to get the winning FG.
it still continues.
i know the kids a rook but isn't this what cost Dan C his job ?
My guess is we're going to be in a lot of close games and we really need this fixed and I mean now.

Any clues as to what's going on with our kicker ?

Personally, it's different situation when a kicker consistently misses "clutch" kicks, and a kicker just having a bad streak.

I would say a cold streak is more fixable than folding under the pressure of clutch kicks.

Guessing he is in the quick sand effect right now. One thing goes wrong, then another, then another...try harder to get out of a rut, over compensate, over power, etc.....

make the kicks or find another profession...pretty simple really...keep missing game changing kicks and you find the turk...

better not miss any thursday

He is probaly worried he is going to recieve a subpoena....LOL

I don't think he is a problem - another poster above touched on him maybe being in a rut rather than a problem making "big" kicks. He has hit on a couple pretty important ones for us and missed a close one yesterday. The blocked field goal is absolutely inexcusable and so was that penalty in the Ravens game.

I expect him to improve throughout this season and if he doesn't get more consistent he'll be gone.

Tonya Harding needs to knee pipe his a**.

I like the kid and he has a strong leg but with the team struggling we need every point.
Really hate that a positive has become a negative. Mr Automatic has become Mr cross your fingers.

no comment on the subpoena or Ms Harding

He hit the upright when kicking a 48 yd FG into a strong wind.
Had RT not taken a sack, the kick would have been 5 yds closer and would have been good.
It was a good kick, but the wind carried it. At least that's what Nantz and Sims stated.
Poor play calling and poor execution by RT are putting Sturgis is difficult situations.

True

The kid needs a strong game on Thursdays to restore his confidence.

and ours as well

It has been rough for him the past three weeks, but at this moment he receives a pass because of early success and the fact that he is a rookie. Disappointed with his play but I haven't had the Carpenter moment yet when I say he needs to be replaced(for me that was December 2010 against the Bills).

Agreed but he needs to turn in around in a hurry.

What happened on the blocked kick ?
Missed the replay.

The blocked FG was not his doing at all. The one off the upright was makeable so that's on him. The 57 yarder vs. Buffalo/Baltimore? Not the easiest kick in the world.

You can't compare him to Carpenter. Not enough experience.

The right side of the line got bullrushed. 4 different Patriots could've blocked that damn thing.

I think the kid's going to be fine. Only thing that makes me wonder otherwise is that his kickoffs seem to get shorter now that he's missed a few FGs. That's the only sign of a lack of concentration and mental toughness, and, heck, that's an epidemic on this team.

As much as we disagree on who's at fault for all the stuff going wrong, I think Sturgis has been dealt the lousiest hand of all. He has an easily makeable FG turned into a 50-something yarder into a gusty wind because we take a 9-yard sack. We have all this talent on offense and defense and we are putting it on him much more than we should to decide these games. I guess that's the way it is for kickers, but I feel for him more than anyone on this team. Most of the other guys have played a bigger role in their own demise.

The kids has a rare leg. If he doesn't make it here, he'll be an All-Pro somewhere in his career.
