Cam Cam brought up a good point about Ted Ginn that I would like to share with everyone else. Here is an excerpt from a article from miamidolphins.com:

“As a returner, you can see why he is what he is," Cameron said. "He just catches the ball effortlessly. The one thing as a returner, and I don’t think Randy (Mueller) and I have shared this with you, a big part of playing in this division is if we thought we could get an impact put returner, we wanted a guy who had handled punts in tough weather. He’s from Cleveland and he played in the Big 10. Now you go to Buffalo, you go to New York, you go to New England, now he’s back there returning punts, and you can see where it’s just natural.

I didnt even realize this. Special teams is important and bad weather often translates into no ST for us or any team for that matter.

Special teams can make or break a game. I dont think some people realize just how important special teams actually are. In some instances they could be more effective than offense or defense alone

this is Cam from yesterdays presser about Ginn..

(On how close Ted Ginn is to playing regularly as a wide receiver) – “It’s early. We have a plan and that’s the most important thing. We have a plan and that starts as a punt returner and a kick returner and then taking every day one day at a time. We have another day tomorrow, then we come back and he has some time to train and be around the rest of the rookie class. They’ll be doing a lot of throwing on their own so that will be a nice time for him where they can all slow things down a little bit. Then you go through training camp and you just grind away and grind away and grind away. I don’t know any other way, I think we made some progress as a punt and kick returner for sure."

ohhh, I like this talk. I recall Cam making mention that he intended to get Ginn involved many ways. He's making progress in his first assignment, returning the footaball He will be able to have an immediate impact.

(On if has a goal for Ginn’s role beyond a punt and kick returner) – “That will all clarify itself. We are trying to make it as hard on him as we can. We are putting him on the line of scrimmage at the X-position where people can walk right up on him and there is no free access. I think that is the best way a receiver can grow. You test his mettle a little bit and find out what they are made of. He’s responded. He’s responded extremely well.â€Â

So far so good... you know damned well our guys are not cutting him any slack.

Nice post cnc and I couldn't agree more with the plan Cam has. He's basically saying you are our Devin Hester and you're going to work on returns for now. Once he becomes more comfortable, he can be eased into working at WR but for now, focus on the homeruns.

With our D, Ginn will touch the ball on returns alone 5 to 10 times a game.

I have thought about this a lot. If our defense is dominant, which it will be again -- a powerful returner is really the best pick we could have made.

We can say whatever about drafting the position high. This game is decided by inches, and an extra 30+ yards a game is absolutely huge.

6 Touchdowns by Hester = 42 points for the offense / 16 Games =

2 plus points per game. Not including defensive field position and overall performance / average, just with the "home runs."

Now, give him the ball 3 - 4 times on offense... With his speed I like this pick more and more every time I think about it. And I like Beck too.

So, to everyone who said that we did not draft a KR/PR at #9, but we drafted a WR who could also handle PR/KR - I think Cam just proved you all wrong.

BTW - if Ginn is that dangerous on returns - how hard is it to neutralize him? Kick away from him, punt long angle out of bounds, etc. You can game plan a returner - not so easy for a WR.

How many people here think Belichick and Mangini don't know that?

Another thing Im sure Cam Cam wanted to say was something in reference to not drafting Brady. Green is better than Quinn (now), and I dont even think Quinn is that good. Ginn is going to make plays for us this year, Quinn would of made plays for the other team...

Cam has been all over the weather thing. I remember when before the draft, there were rumors that he made Quinn throw out in the snow. When Cam was asked, why? He answered we play the NYJ, NE, and Buff those are all teams who we might have to play in bad weather.

I really don't think we should expect Hester-like numbers out of Ginn this year. Remember, Hester was a special player that doesn't happen very often. There have been many players drafted for speed with intentions of being the "Hester" factor on returns, but most don't pan out like him. I'm not saying Ginn is a bum, and i'm not saying he won't make some terrific plays and give our team a spark, I just don't think we should get our hopes up that much. But either way i'm glad we have him, we've needed something 'special' on special teams for a while now

Although I know we play in a much better division than the Bears, they didn't have a great offense. They won games with defense and special teams.

The more I hear about things like this, the more I like Cam.
