Just a question.....

I know a lot of people were against drafting or attempting to trade up & draft Newton in the prior draft, however after seeing what he has been able to do on a very average Panthers team, would you reconsider your position on drafting him if Miami had the chance?

Pouncey has been pretty good, but Newton, he is a franchise QB that we have been lacking.

So, would you reconsider? (Knowing that Luck is probably out of the question and Barkley is undecided about committing to the next draft.)

With the knowledge that he'd be what he is... You Ricky Williams your draft away for this dude.. no question

He wasn't reachable, so it isn't something I am going to ponder. Carolina actually did a great thing . . . they surrounded him with talent. DWill, Stewart, Steve Smith, Olsen, Shockey, the oline was always decent. Newton stepped into a great situation in Carolina, it was a great fit for him. Trading from 15 to 1 isn't realistic.

I think trading up that far is realistic. Atlanta trades from mid 20's to 6 for julio jones, so in hindsight we could have gone from 15 to 1. Probably would have given up top 3 picks last year & 1 & 2 this year,.

Nah, it isn't. The #1 pick has far mor value than the #6 pick, even though the leap from 24 to 6 is greater. Maybe with players involved it is possible, but with no players, just picks, it wasn't something that is thinkable. Teams aren't giving up 3 first round picks, and 2 2nd round picks for a guy who had one solid year of NCAA football . . . I'm sorry, to me it isn't thinkable unless you are using unrealistic scenarios. I try to judge any hindsight within reason. I don't think it is within to think that trade up was possible w/o players being packaged.

I'm sure if Miami had the chance, they would definitely inquire to see what it would cost, but the price would be too steep, even watching Newton play the first half of the season.

It depends on the year. I'd argue that in the past decade half the time the team with the first pick would have happily traded it just to get out of the ridiculous salary they'd have to fork over. You think Saban really wanted that 2nd pick? I don't know how sold the Panthers were on Newton prior to the draft....I do know there were many people within the organization that still believed in Clausen and wanted him starting even after Newton was drafted.

With the amount of uncertainty and going from #15 to #1, the compensation would have been far to much for me to make that deal. You're probably looking at 4-5 first and second round picks. For Andrew Luck I would have. For Cam Newton. No.

Cam started great but as teams are learning how to play him he is coming back to earth. No doubt he is a good QB but lets see where he is after a couple of years before determing his worth.

Pretty much how i feel. Good QB, still a guy that I believe will be eventually figured out and contained. If teams can figure out Mike Vick they can figure out Cam Newton. U can't compare trading up from 15 to 1 with anything . . . just know the cost will be heavy.

There's no way we're going to be able to trade up that far to get Newton, especially with the new rookie wage scale.

Cam Newton has put up some good looking numbers by making big plays, and that's an innate ability he has that he is always gonna have, but I'm still not sold on him as a winning QB. He's put up great yardage and points in a lot of losing efforts, and while I know he's on a bad team, he doesn't and might not ever have that ability to consistently lead a methodical drive that wins the game for his team.

Like many have said, the jury is still out, and while you have to like his big play ceiling, I still think other rookie QB's like Dalton and Ponder have looked like they have the skills to be consistent winners in this league (even though ponder is having a rough time on a miserable team right now).

He can throw, he can pass, he has touch, he loves the game, he won in college and he's built like a stud....I'm not sure how many people thought he couldn't make it as a top flight NFL QB.

The Carolina D is in shambles right now. Cam can't do it all by himself. I see a bright future for the kid.
