Coach Cam Cameron was pressed Thursday morning about the right guard situation. He said last month that Rex Hadnot had the job, but Hadnot has been lining up with second-teamers so far. Drew Mormino, the sixth round pick, has taken reps in his place.

A reporter asked, “I know you said back in June that Rex was your right guard. Has that changed at all?â€Â
Cameron responds … mostly.

“The statement is true. Now we’re in training camp. Someone said to me the other day, ‘Is this a clean slate for everybody?’ And I think I said, ‘The clean slate was about three months ago.’ However, this is a starting point for the growth of our offense, and that offensive line thing is a work in progress.â€Â

Too much is being made too early Hadnot and Shelton are not going to lose thier jobs that fast.

I agree. It is "training" camp, and we all know that Cam wants the O-line to know several positions. For now I think he is getting guys reps at other positions, so he knows where he stands for depth purposes, later in the preseason we'll see less of this as things shake out.

I wouldn't be so quick on that. I think either one could lose their job. Shelton's still overpriced and hasn't played as well as he can at tackle. Hadnot's known weakness is that he's not mobile and Cameron wants mobile pulling type guards which Mormino was showing off apparently last night in camp.

In fact I'll go on record and say that 1 of them at the least won't be starting when things get going.

When asked if it had changed at all he said mostly. To me there means that there was a change. If someone wanted to dismiss this again he could have said no, there has been no change or something to that effect. Instead he said mostly, which means that has been some change.

That being said, if both Hadnot and Shelto show up w/ the 1st team today all this banter is for nothing. But something is telling me we will see at least one of these guys demoted.

I've said I like Hadnot and I think he is important to our line, but that is my opinion, Cam may have something different in his desired players. he said that he wanted smaller more athletic guards. Hadnot is not especially mobile, and can struggle to hit a moving target. Shelton seems to be better inside where he can use his size to engulf defenders IMO. I am basing this on his ability at LT and saying he has trouble in space, that part doesn't chnage from LT to RT you are in space on both sides.

Cam has also said that he wants smaller guards. And, that he sees Hadnot as being a good player. But if you wanted smaller guards you could have put both Satele and Lewienski at Guard as both are around 300 lbs, which is the architype of what Cam wants. This way Satele could have been groomed to play C in the future if need be. Hadnot is FA after this year, so if he doesn't fit your scheme, off he goes. Carey, Lewienski, Hadnot, Satele, Shelton. Big guys out and small guys in. But instead we move Hadnot to a position where he appears to be too big and put the rook as the C. And through the first 4 days of camp neither Shelton or Hadnot has sniffed the 1st team yet. Never has it said that they are rotating.

I am real curious to see today's practice. I want to see who the first team o-line is...........if there is still no change then I will have to believe what I'm seeing until I see otherwise. Right now I am not going on who "should play where", it seems I need to look at who "is playing where". I've also said before that all this banter might be moot after today, but if there is no change, who can honestly tell me that the thought of both being demoted isn't nawing at your brain.

Predictions at this time mean nothing...how are you going to motivate your players to play at their best level and compete if you go on record to say that "so and so" has this position or that position locked up...too early to say that.

I think CC is doing it right...its the only way to find out who your potential "stars" really are.

well I doubt Shelton loses his job, Alabi has done nothing on the field and Shelton has more trouble on the left side, all of his strengths work well at right tackle and his weakness is not as detrimental.
