Coach Tony Sparano safely estimates the Miami Dolphins secondary dropped at least two dozen interceptions last season.
He's optimistic those figures should drop in 2011 because the cornerbacks and safeties have been clutch bringing in bad passes during training camp. And there's been plenty of bad passes.
During Tuesday's practice cornerback Benny Sapp picked off a pass from Chad Henne he would have returned for a touchdown.
Cornerbacks Will Allen and Nolan Carroll also brought down interceptions during the 11-on-11 portions of practice….

And now for some bad news:
OT Marc Colombo continues to struggle against quick pass rushers like OLB Cameron Wake. At one point backup Jason Trusnik blew past the 10-year veteran for a would-be sack.
and this guy is supposed to be our starting RT.:err:

Well hopefully in game situations our QB's aren't bothered by pass rushers, since they see them in the backfield so often during practice..

Or the other bad news... our QBs have been throwing tons of interceptions to our young secondary.

Let's hope they can catch this year. We need to be at least even if not over on the turnover differential to have a shot in 2011. That was a huge part of our success in 2008, in addition to smart QB play.

Thats the other way of reading this...our QB situation is that bad....

Duh Chad Henne is throwing the ball! Interceptions for everyone!

Man our Defence is good/great...........Our offence sucks, it's going to be a 7/9-8/8 this year too..........:(

Even though columbo blows, in all fairness most lineman struggle with wake...

Didn't they have a bunch last training camp also?

I'm pretty sure I kept hearing about Mike Nolan and his hungry defense and being offensive this time last year as well. It is more mental than anything.

That's because last year they were also practicing against Henne , and his passes are easy to intercept (why other teams caught them as well with very VERY few drops). So it's no surprise the dolphins D isn't dropping any in practice against Henne.

Because every defense in the league catches them against Henne

Here's the issue- none of the guys that are picking off passes are part of our starting secondary. I've read all the time about Carroll & Wilson picking off passes, as well as some other guys, but these guys aren't Vontae, Sean Smith, YBell, or Clemons, and unless something changes those guys are gonna be out there most of the time.

A lot of good it will do us come week one that the guys on the sidelines have picked off lots of passes in training camp.
