I have read many threads that lean toward assuming that Campbell will make the roster. He has not practiced much and may have to rely on getting into the games to show something. I would say Welker and Vick have a better shot than Campbell at the present time. What do you guys think?

I'll hold judgement until I see the Jags game this weekend.

Kelly campbell was cut after a very good season with the vikings. hes very small, and he's not the most consistant player either. With Marcus vick playing bette4r than expected, and Hagan already locking up the Number 3 spot, cambells gonna have a hard time beating out aromashadu and welker

Haven't really heard anything about him lately, and I don't know if that a good thing or not for him. As far as Vick goes, I was suprised he was already ahead of Aromashodu, so who knows.

Don't hold your breath. The reason he's out of favor is he can't stay healthy and that means he may not even play the Jax game.

He was flying high after mini camps and now he's disappearing in training camp.

Where have we seen that before?

where are you getting your information?

yeah i want to see some good returns against the jags and then we will see.

I agree that Welker has a better shot at sticking than Campbell.

I think a lot depends on what CPep thinks .If he thinks our other WRs can do just as good or better job then Campbell may be the odd man out.

One of the reasons Campbell was brought in was because of his chemistry with CPep.

Another reason is that he can stretch out the field with his speed.

I can see why you would think that, however the truth is that the coaches seriously considered bringing Campbell on board last year after the Vikings cut him, and then they agreed on a contract with him far before free agency even began, way before it was known that Culpepper was an option for us. The only reason it took a while to sign him was because we wanted to get a crack at guys like David Givens and Antwaan Randle El (both of whom turned out to be too expensive) before we officially brought in Campbell.

Saban was asked specifically about the issue and he pointed those things out and said Campbell and Culpepper were completely unrelated. I think a reported had suggested that the coaches got Culpepper's opinion of Campbell before signing him and he kind of gave that "Are you stupid?" look and pointed out that Charlie Baggett coached the dude in Minnesota, Scott Linehan coached the dude in Minnesota, they had looked at bringing Campbell on board last year but decided against it I believe due to a combination of injury and legal issues, and they had been talking with Campbell and agreeing on a contract before Culpepper was even a consideration.

So really I do think Campbell's sticking or not sticking doesn't have much to do with Culpepper. I can't see Nick Saban even consulting Daunte about it because, why would he? Does Daunte work for our personnel department now? That's sort of what Nick's stance would be.

Hate to give up on Campbell yet, he's a burner. Some of his TD catches from DC @ Min. were awesome. Lets see what happens vs. Jags.

I do think he'll still make it. But I do think this question sort of highlights why some of us thought questions over whether Wes Welker would make the cut were silly.

Here is one that I have in my gif library.

Kelly Campbell is really a great WR for Daunte's type of play. He is a burner who can come in the slot and make a big run down the field and catch a long TD pass. (Just like in the video CrunchTime is showing.) I don't think Vick has much of a shot to beat out a guy who has been there and played pretty good. I think Campbell could fall any where from 3-5 on the WR depth chart.
