SS and Lehan scare me. Alot.

Players like Josh Barrett, David Roach, and Trae Williams were there for the taking.

The least they could have done was come in and compete with some of the "starters" we have now.

I remember Sparano saying in a press conference that when they got here and watched the film they had better play in the secondary then they had thought was here

because according to alot of people we will win in the trenches...i dont see it that way...i say until we adress the glaring need at CB...Wr not so much because we will run the ball 50 times with the plethora of running backs we have and run a play pass 5 times to Fasano....but we will be torched go 0-6 ni our division a division who has made a point to get better at the WR/TE and we have not gotten ANY better at the CB

Or WR?????????

WR as well.

Ginn is unproven.

Wilford is nothing more than a 3rd reciever in this league.

Hagan has never proven anything since being drafted.

Camarillo is nothing more than a 4th or a 5th.

Players like Monk, Arrington, and Bowman were avaliable for competition.

and still are on the board.........

I dont know what film they were watching.

If thats true I must question their ability to evalute the defensive secondary.

Because the odds of a WR or CB coming in in rounds 4-7 and CONTRIBUTING are very low. Like I said in another thread, if drafting Joe Blow CB in round 6 would have made people happy, I would have died of laughter. Just because we draft a CB on paper, it would mean squat when there are no decent ones on the board.

It just boils down to the fact that we can't address every position in one single draft. Yes, we could have drafted a CB or a WR instead of picking up a FB, but in the end I think that the selections we have will make us a respectable team this year, and I think that you can count on us addressing the secondary next year in a big way.

Games are won in the trenches.

That statement is true.

But games are also lost when teams throw all over your horrid secondary.

I can see that happeneing alot this year.

two years ago when we had a front seven we were like fourth in the league on defense it all starts with a front if u have a front that can keep the oppositions QB on his heals ull have a productive secondary and that wat BP is doin workin on our front so our secondary can be better, i think next years draft were going skill skill skill all the way through in two years well be saying playoffs

Alot of CB's are taken in the lower rounds and turn out to be valuable starters.

Its been done time after time.

The same can be said with the S position.

I think that if they felt that there was a CB worth taking they would. I also think that containing the run and pressure a QB could make the secondary look better . Also who know what will happen in the June 1 cuts. I am not concerned about the secondary just yet and oh yes there is a draft next year also, so worse comes to worse we could pick up a REAL shutdown corner, which there were none of in this draft

By the way someone saying Wilford is a 3rd receiver without him playing a down here is down right idiotic, but predictable from some of the more dramatic fans on this board.

Maybe they felt that without the protection from the OLine it wouldnt matter if we had Randy Moss and Jerry Rice running routes they wouldnt have got the ball anyway.

Maybe they felt that with the lack of pressure up front and our inability to stop the run having great corners wouldnt have made a lot of sense.

They have addresses the trenches big time and I like it. Maybe next year will be more skills based but we are rebuilding and clearly from the inside out.

On defense, if you fortify the front 7(which we have in FA and the draft), it improves the secondary a lot. Even a secondary that looked bad last year can vastly improve if they get help up front.

As for WR, I don't think Ginn and Wilford are that bad of options as #1 and #2. Another WR is likely to come, wether that be with the 7th round pick, and UDFA or even Keyshawn Johnson.

We help solidify our O-line for the next decade. Lots' of potential there and not bad after 1 draft. You cannot ask for anything better. We also picked up two D-linemen. This team needed to get bigger in the trenches and this draft delivered big-time. The secondary was in better shape then the defensive front seven anyway, IMHO. We couldn't fill everything all at once, especially as the run of secondary players left little to be desired. I was hoping for Cason at 32, but the Chargers and A.J. Smith astutely grabbed him.
