With all the negative post about Daunte and people calling for his head, I was wondering if we can even trade/release him. His contract is massive. Now I am no way saying that we should do this....just a question.

I think the only teams that might bite are the Redskins if they feel the playoffs are doable and they're worried about someone backing up Brunell and maybe the Raiders if they arent thrilled with Walters. After that, I am hardpressed to think of a team unless there is a injury. We wont get back a 2nd though, maybe a 4th

I find it kind of funny that people actually voted for him as best offensive player for the fins in the first four games. (2%)

Thanks for your answer, but I was looking at it from the point of view that...with such a big contract, would the cap hit kill us and cripple this team for years to come? or is there some kind of buyout caluse that limits are cap hit and still allows the team to be competitive.

Well if they pick up the contract we would get stuck with a 7 million dollar signing bonus. I believe the majority of it would hit us next year but I'm no expert

Signing bonus' count very little, if at all, of their actual dollar amount towards the cap.

If you don't think we should do it....why even bother starting a thread about it? That makes no sense.

no, you would only get a late draft pick if anything. it simply will not happen.

I know how I'm rating this thread, one star. Only see Oakland really being interested in DC, and it would cost us way too much cap hit.

why would anyone want him now he has prove nothing.

What do you think we could get for DC right now, with the way he's playing for the last two years? A backup DB? Unfortunately he's proving that his play last year wasn't a fluke. Nobody wants him now. Fins are going to have to eat this one if he can't turn it around. Thanks Daunte Feeley.

Actually, if I am not mistaken, bonuses are prorated over the length of the contract and absolutely count toward the cap. For instance, if we gave a player a 10 mil signing bonus on a 4 year contract. 2.5 mil gets counted toward our cap every year of the contract. If we cut said player after the first two years, the 5 million that would have been prorated over the last two years comes due now. This is precisely how teams get stuck with players.

Also, let's give Culpepper a couple of years. Look how long it took Edgerin James to come back from just a torn ACL. Culpepper's was three times worse. Also, consider our turnstiles we have for blockers and the poor playcalling that Mularkey has been responsible. I gave Nick a free pass the first year, but he needs to get these problems taken care of.
