At three years and $16 million, Haynesworth contract is now very tradeable

Posted by Mike Florio on April 6, 2010 11:03 PM ET
With the Redskins paying defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth a $21 million bonus last week, we're told that the practical length and value of his contract is three years, $16 million, with $9 million guaranteed.

As a league source opined, "Every team in the NFL would have interest in that."

The question is whether and to what extent the Redskins would want reimbursement of the money paid last week. And that question depends on whether the Redskins prefer cash or draft picks -- and whether the teams that want him are willing to give up cash or draft picks.

In our view, coach Mike Shanahan likely would prefer to stockpile picks.

We've confirmed that the Redskins definitely attempted to trade Haynesworth before the $21 million payment came due. Others have reported that the efforts continue, with the Titans and Rams the teams most frequently mentioned. Now that the financial package has been reduced to a ridiculously affordable $16 million over three years, someone will bite if the price is right.

Haynesworth is a 4-3 DE that rushes the QB, Since the Skins are switching to a 3-4 He does not fit their plans. If he could have played NT he would be doing it with the Skins.

since when is he a 4-3 DE?

They paid him $32 Million last year and they just (April 1st, 2010) paid him another $21 Million. Doubt they are going to trade a 2 year $53 Million investment now.

He is NOT by any means a 4-3 DE.

i'd imagine the redsskins would liked to have traded him before his bonus, but now i dont see them moving him even though he is not considered a 3-4 NT. no reason for them not to keep him now. not many upgrades available

what the hells w/ all these Haynesworth threads....Miami wouldn't sign him even if he were on the open market, and would work for free.

I'm going to assume you meant DT....and DE was just a typo....

As of right now, he IS going to play NT for the skins.

but he doesn't want to.

The skins wanted to trade him so they didn't have to pay him $21 million....they already did, so this whole trade thing is dead unless he decides to give back a huge portion of that money (does he not want to play NT that bad???)

Physically, he can probably play anywhere on the line. The real question is will he? He already has an issue with Washington going to a 3-4. When Albert doesn't want to do something, he won't. I'll pass.

NFL Network reported this last week. They reported that Haynesworth wants to play 4-3 DT. When he was a free agent last year, Haynesworth instructed his agent to only look at 4-3 teams.

as he has said, over and over.... HE DOESNT WANT TO PLAY NOSE!!

people just dont relaize how hard it is to play nose at a high level
and stay in on most plays. thats why so many DT's in the nfl have
said they would NEVER want to play that position. it is a certain
kind of player and a certain skill set you have to posess to do it.

albert is BRUTE strong and plays with incredable leverage [two
things that williams does not] and he doesnt want to play the
nose!! a guy who haas never played nose and can only muster up
22 reps on the bench at aht combine is worth the #12 pic to
play nose? nope.

and its why MOST dt conversions endup being mediocre stop gaps
or wash out completely.

and ONCE AGAIN, this is why i dont see why so many think that
DAN WILLIAMS is this great pic at #12 for us. HE ISNT A NOSE TACKLE!
HE HAS NEVER PLAYED THE POSITION! HE IS DT IN 4-3 and thats where
he has been his whole college career.

you dont spend the #12 on a prospect who has never played the position and coming off a VERY mediocre senior season at his natural position.

its silly!! its sill all these poeple calling him a NOSE TACKLE. some writer or board
guru or draft board says williams COULD MAYBE play nt, thats all it is. and all of
a sudden, NT appears after his name in mock drafts!!

drafting him high, by ANY team as a nose tackle is rediculous. its these kind of
moves that get regimes fired.
