I just read a thread complaining about our secondary, have read several others over the last few months talking about upgrading every position except RB. Realistically, how much can Saban fix on this team in the draft and FA next year??

Alot..

Our secondary is fixable with will poole coming back and a ton of good free agents out there.

The o-line can also be fixed, there are a bunch of free agents out there and the draft is loaded with talent.

The quarterback situation is kinda tough to fix in one year because we need to draft someone, but then we wont have a solid starter till our pick develops. We can always try for brees or rivers and the development time would be close to nothing, but I dont see San Diego letting either go right now.

Our secondary will be alot better next year with the the return of will poole:D i think we will draft a corner in maybe the third or fourth round or pick up a FA to take the spot of sam madison in a year or two. I'm not quite sure about Daniels though..?? he seems to be getting burnt alot:fire: . Also remember tebucky! he'll be back next season.... i really like him and shulters in the back.

Gee in ONE draft and FA period Saban took us from a bismal 4-12 to a playoff contender until week 15. We have a great shot at 8-8 and with a little good fortune 9-7. So my answer is YES! I fully expect a playoff team next year. Patriots beware...YOUR TIME AT THE TOP IN THE AFC EAST IS SHORT!!! :dolphins:

I think next year we will be a playoff team, but I think in 2 to 3 years we will be serious contenders.

Don't forget that we will also have Mitchell who Saban must be pretty high on if he was willing to give him a contract knowing he couldn't play for the whole year. Not a lot of experience at CB though. Makes me think they will try to keep Madison around. (And I hope they do)

I think it's a lot easier to improve the defense than offense in the NFL. Saban, like Bellicheck, is a 'system guy". He doesn't rely on the talent level of players as much as other clubs. He can coach-up mediocre players. I think the secondary has played better in the second half of the season, and Saban should be able to find suitable replacemnts through the draft or FA. I have a lot of faith in this guy. He has done wonders for a franchise that lloked like it was going to be in serious trouble for years.

He fixed 1/3 of the team this year. Figure he fixes another 1/3 next year and hopefully the final pieces for a Super Bowl run are put in place by 2007

I think that Saban has done an awesome job so far.

I am not worried at all about the secondary. From what I gather from interviews with players, his system is pretty complicated and it's gonna take some time to get everybody to the point where they aren't having to think about it. Next year, the returning vets will have 1 year of it under their belts, and that will help the new guys learn it more quickly. So, I think we're gonna be ok.

With the job that Saban's done with this team already, why wouldn't anyone out there think he can't fix it all?? He has a plan, and the entire team has bought into it. The results in the second half of the season makes our team a desireable place to play for. We'll have free agents lining up!

rivers is a rookie next year. 3 years riding the bench and no playing time, he is not ready.
