please explain to me why Coach Sparano seems to insist on keeping or using Davone Bess at punt returning...i absolutely love the job he&his coaches have done in turning our beloved Dolphins around;but keeping or using Bess as a punt returner makes no sense to me. so if any of you out there can explain that one to me i'd greatly appreciate it...

Okay I'll give it a whirl...

1. Punt retruning is different than kick returning in a few aspects. One, it is tougher to catch the ball and make a decision on if to return it or call a fair catch or let it go if you are close to the goal line. Also the actual return is more about making people miss rather than having raw speed. Kickoff returns are based on speed but the punt returns are not. Davone Bess is better at making people miss (supposedly) and he also catches all the punts and doesn't make a mistake by letting any go (Ginn did that a few times).

2. Ginn is being used a lot at WR now so he can't do it all. We need him to be fresh and if we added punt returns to his duites, that could amount to between 5 and 10 more plays per game. If he is not conditiioned well then we may have to take away 5 to 10 plays from him on offense

\I agree with you though, I think it should be Ginn, not Bess.

it doesnt look like bess is a threat to return a punt, but he also isn't a threat to drop it either. With that being said i think we're doing the right thing by not making ginn take care of all special teams duties. How about trying patrick cobbs back there?

For a fast, small guy, doesn't Bess look SLOW returning punts.. He looks really smooth at receiver and has great hands but i'd rather see Ginn back there.

Hate to risk an injury though so i see Sparano's thinking

I would say Ginn did a hell of a job making the first guy miss on Sunday.

ok,i understand&get what you're saying, but being how Bess isn't getting any yards on punt return duties..i know we have other players we can try back there...if not Ginn, then Patrick Cobbs as one guy said,or someone else...i would just like to see someone back there, who, like Ginn, is a threat to take it to the house when he gets the ball in his hands...and IMO,Bess isn't that guy...

Well to date Ginn has fumbled every single punt he has gotten so maybe that has a little to do with it as well.

Didn't Ginn return a punt in preseason? And he HAD a kickoff on Sunday.

I dunno, I would put him on all returns, that is me tho . . . worried if he's tired? The man is like 21 . . . he wont be tired.

Really, he fumbled that one in the preseason he returned for a TD?

Yea, he misjudged 2 punts this year in limited action, but lets not be silly here . . . we have seen this man return many punts in college and last year . . . I don't buy that excuse of him "fumbling punts". I rather the let's not overwork him excuse or the he is too fragile excuse.

Ricky fumbles more than the average RB . . . a little more risk, but a greater reward . . . we didn't stop Ricky from running in 2002 . . . u put your best man back there.

ive been trying to figure this out all season long as well. by now i just kind of shrug and say whatever.

He doesnt want Ginn getting a big head on returns and lose focus on being a WR.
There are plenty of players in the NFL that would be great Kick Returners but they dont to focus on their main job.
haha no i dont know man..
i would love to see him back there everytime..
whenever a kick off goes in bounds to him i get pumped up.

i guess our coaches just want the punt to be handled consistently and the return to be a small positive..that i guess overrules giving ginn too much workload and too much risk of injury.

Because they had to give Bess a legimate job to keep him on the roster other than being an excellent ball catcher.
