In one of the other threads regarding Coach Dom Capers, someone said that the reason he has not been named Defensive Coordinator is because of a technicality in his contract with the Houston Texans, which will end after 2006.

Can someone confirm this?

I know it doesn't matter what his title is because he'll be 2nd in command of that defense behind Coach Saban and I can't think of two better defensive coaches to run a defense.

Thanks!

That seems right, its just a formailty. But, with the rescent depature of our two DC's, no doubt that capers is in charge of the defense.

Confirmed. The only reason why Capers isn't going to have the title of DC is because of his contract with the Texans. We might not have anybody have the title of DC this year, but we will have one and that's Capers.

exactly, i bet they expected it to play out this way...im just excited we got him on our staff

yea, it was something to the effect of Capers being under contract for another year with the texans, and his salary being set pretty high...if the dolphins had named him DC, for some reason either he wouldn't get the money or the dolphins would have to pay it, i forget which. It's basically a money saving loophole.

It also allows Capers to interview for Head Coaching positions at anytime. When you are a DC, then you have to wait until the end of your teams season.

I read somewhere that it was a result of a dispute between the two teams. Apparently because of his designated title the Dolphins are paying him £300,000 in salary this year. The Texans pick up the remainder of his agreed contract.

I assume that his contract with the Texans was due to expire next year when he will either look for a Head Coaching position or sign a DC contract with us.

The Texans believe we're low-balling them.:sidelol:

we don't do the pounds sterling thing mate..we do $ dollahs

I think we are low balling them too... I like it.

Yes, it was a typo.

But it makes it even better! I agree we are stiffing them, but after being stiffed by almost every team in the 3 years before Nick Saban came (trade wise) its nice to have the shoe on the other foot for a change.

We're not stiffing them at all. Capers was/is under contract to them for this year. It was their option to let him go and as a result, they are responsible for any salary he would otherwise not recieve, up to his contractural salary for this year. The amount that the Fins are paying is probably a pre-agreed upon figure that was already included the contract....
