Interesting. Seeing that Manning only played 9 games during his rookie season and Tannehill has played 9 this season, Tannehill has now played the same number of games as Manning played during his first five seasons. After five seasons Manning threw 98 td's - Tannehill has 97. Manning threw 74 interceptions - Tannehill has 61. Manning was completing 56 % of his passes while Tannehill is at 62%. Manning had never had a 4000 yard season and the best year he had was 3,762. Tannehill on the other hand only had one season lower than Manning's best year in total yards and that was Tannehill's rookie season.
And when we start talking about Manning's Super Bowl wins remember he also had some great defenses and decent running games. Not to mention Manning was playing with and experienced coach and Tannehill was playing with a coach who was learning on the run.
I'll never convince metric lovers that stats are just idiotic in this game. Take the above for example. According to those stats, shouldn't Tanne be so much more successful at this point in this career?
Stats don't account for amazing throws in clutch situations, smart passes on third down even if minor to keep the chains moving on what is primarily a drive dominated by run plays, putting the ball up and having your WR make a helmet type catch in the most crucial of situations, etc.
You can break the numbers down to the decimals but in the grand scheme of things they mean nothing,
nothing.
Bress (j/k), Rivers could've had another 2 INTs this passed Sunday. If he leads the final drive to win the game, do they matter? No. Its a win. But they do matter when you look back a few years from then and go, "Well, look how many INTs he had that season." See, they amount to very little if nothing. Guys, Dan Marino is not/was not considered in the top 5 QBs in NFL history the moment he retired without a ring. That's just nuts.
As much as I know some of you are going to hate this oversimplification, some guys have that magic when the time is right and some don't. And first and foremost, you have to have the support- doesn't have to be great- but consistent support to put you in those possible magic time situations.
The Giants' defense were mad men in those SB seasons. Mad men. Tom Brady, like or not maybe the best QB we will ever see before we pass (at least me), must still have nightmares about that front four.
I am way out of line to say the following because I don't watch the Giants... at all... but I'd put money that, at this juncture, Tanne would not have the same success as Manning even given those SB teams.
Yesterday was the first day that I saw the aforementioned "magic" from Tanne. And I know, I know, "This idiot Zach54 talking wizardry crap... psst" but I also know that you know that I know that you know what I'm talking about (you know? lol wow that was annoying even to me).
Its said magic that makes sports beautiful, those moments... Babe's called shot (fact or not still legend), Ali's rope-a-dope, Broadway's victory certification. It's existence has become as extinct as the dinosaur, obsolete in this inundated world of redundant numbers. But like the dinosaurs before us, "magic" lived a heck of a lot longer than decimals.
