We've talked about saving sacks and keeping Tannehill off his back in the passing game, and not much on run blocking. Benton is a VG OL coach but, still needs the talent to coach, as was seen last year in Houston struggling.

The only two on the OL who have shown the ability have been Pouncey but not last year, and Shelly in very limited play last season. Other than that. Albert is below average. Dallas is unproven, and while many think James will be good on the pass, no one has said anything on his run blocking.

How does everyone see this working out to allow Lazor to balance our O?

No one knows, OP.

You're absolutely right that Albert and James were not brought in here to run block. And there's a lot of change on the O line for anyone to be comfortable about our ability to consistently block for the RB's. So I think the success of the run game is going to depend a lot on the scheme, and if we can stretch out defenses.

If we have a lot of success in the pass game, there will be more than enough room for the RB's to get some good runs in. Even Lamar Miller may have some good games if our offense is successful.

IF we are looking for Lazor to put in what Philly did, it depended on the running game and was 50/50 with the pass. However, the run blocking in Philly may have been one of the best ever. Overall, they graded out at over 100 for the year with #2 being in the 30's. It's going to be a big challenge.

I'm not expecting him to put in what Philly did, he'll have his own gameplan. He may bring over some nuances from Philly and have some similar plays, but he will run the offense his way and will not be just like Philly's just because he was a coach there.

I do agree but, have to think he wants a balanced O, and to be able to run the ball. I think that would be the same of any OC, new or old.

Scheme is going to be very important this year in our offensive line play. I expect us to spread the field a lot more in the running game this year, we have to find creative ways to get advantageous match ups, something we didn't do much last year. We have to find a way to get the running game going this year, because we can't go through another year like last year relying on Tannehill to have to throw it 35+ times a game.

Yes, he will like a balanced game, but we won't be a team that runs to open up the pass game, not with this core of runners anyways. The success of the run game will depend on how much Tannehill improves this year.

I'm more concerned about our run defense this year. Replacing Solia (who ranked 16th overall against the run) with Mitchell (who was rated 66th out of 77) is a big concern. Not to mention the other guys who are returning that were lackluster at doing that in 2013.

I forget the exact numbers, but our losses piled up significantly when Tannehill passed the ball more than 25 times, and had a very good record when he passed for less.

I would think we're at least somewhat better than last season. The only question is by how much?

Something is off here. RT did not pass 25 times or less in any game last year. There was one of 27, and 33 to 43 the rest. When he completed less than 25, we were getting beat by Buff twice, Jets, Pats, and Saints.

I feel the same about our run blocking as I do about our pass protection. I will believe it when I see it. Until then I'm with the rest of you in hoping things will all work out.

Hard to say esp with rookies. Martin was a great pass protecter in college in pros not so much
