What a novel question wouldn't you say? This commentary had me thinking, and I couldn't come up with one name....even though I think the closest to this modest question would be Jeno James. He's the only one I think close enough on our OL who can finally live up to the hype we've brought in. In his 2nd year with Houck, I think he can put it together if Hadnot has a solid year at center and LJ Shelton holds his own at LT. This should free up James to play his most consistent football since he's been here.

Anyway here's the commentary: http://www.miamifootball365.com/articles/miami-dolphins/2006/miami-dolphins-oline050706.html

We could but we most likely wont

Truthfully in Pro Bowl voting people go for the big names on O-line and not who is performing 95% of the time

Once our QB play improves, that will have a direct relection on the OL. ALso, if we can get Ronnie Brown going, that'll send props to the OL as well. Be patient, it'll come in a year or so.

All the Pro-Bowl is, is a popularity contest.

To some degree yes, but performing also gets you there......Chambers didnt get in because he is a popular WR around the league

In the "glamour" positions it's all about stats. In the trenchs it's about popularity and reputation. Remember when Trace Armstrong got voted to the pro bowl? He wasn't even the starter at LDE but he had so many sacks in his role as desinated rusher that he was voted to Hawaii. Jamie Nails had a great year at RG a few years back but without a reputation couldn't get the votes. Oline is a hard act to break into.

One note in the article I found affirming was it took my view that while Jeno James has played well for us at LG he has not lived up to the hype or promise he had coming here. Perhaps a second year under Houck and thus in a better scheme he will finally become the dominant guard we all hoped he would be.

The two that could most likely make the Pro Bowl of our O-line, IMO, is Rex Hadnot and Jeno James.

I was thinking the same thing at first. But, if we can get a very good passing game, then maybe Shelton makes it. Or, if the running game dominates, then maybe Carey gets a shot. I guess what I'm saying is that none of them really stand out to me at this point, so they all have an equal shot IMO (which is not necessarily a good thing ).

I think Vernon Carey has the best shot of making it. As a first round pick from a big name school he certainly has the name recognition that could get him in. Plus he is only a third year player so if he has a good year people will chalk it up to his break-out year as oppose to an anomoly in an otherwise average career.

I would say that Vernon Carey has the best chance out of all of our lineman.

That's not to say that he is the best, but as a former first-round pick, if he "makes good" as the RT with the team that drafted him and the team has offensive success, he could garner attention.

The one thing that could work against this however is that they don't vote RT's and LT's seperately, so the bigger name LT's would probably still get most of the fan vote.

beat me to it!! :tantrum:

:D

yea the o-line in the pro bowl is pretty much picked already bc people dont know the lines like mawae will probably make it even if his qb gets sacked 100 times like always, but it will take a couple years b4 one makes it maybe vernon carey in 2 years

IMO it would take a huge rushing year from RB that would include some highlight type blocks that got some airtime. Even then it would probably take two years of having a good rep for an o-lineman to make it to the probowl.

I think that Rex Hadnot would have the best chance to make it to the probowl.

But liike some people already said, the probowl is nothing but a popularity contest and guys like Michael Vick standards will get in everytime.

Honestly it's doubtful that anyone will go...even if we have a great year most will credit it towards HH and not the individual players.

Think about it...our line was top quartile of the league for sacks given up and yards per rush for the lead RB(s)... and still most people thought our line was crappy last season. If the improvement continues and we somehow become the top line most will still credit HH because 3-4 of the players were memberes of one of the worst lines in the league (2004)..

Just like it's hard for good teams to get Pro-bowl bearths it will be hard for us...Honestly to get it they don't need to play good..they need to play lights out because that is the only thing that will stop the league from thinking it was all HH (which it most likely is...or Wise was just REALLY bad)
