Can Tua's Contract Be Renegotiated?

Are you considering the financial ramifications? Or is this just emotional opinions on individual players?

I ask because I don't really see any tangible benefit of cutting AJ or trading Waddle at this point.

I’m considering the fact that AJ is as unreliable as Tua at staying on the field, and should not be depended on going forward. The only time we were able to rely on him was when he was playing for a contract. Also considering that Waddle is one of the few vets on the team with actual outside value, constantly banged up, has shown to be unreliable as a WR1, and is going into his age 28 season.

I have a Jaylen Waddle jersey…..he’s been my favorite player on the team for a while before Achane’s emergence. It’s not about emotion — I don’t have any negative energy towards him. I’d root for his individual success elsewhere. I’m thinking from an asset building perspective being that we are going into another rebuild. He’s going to be in his 30s by the time we’re competitive again. And he’s a receiver who relies on speed and quickness to be effective.

He should retire and help us out
How does that help the Dolphins out? Guaranteed money is guaranteed money. I don't think his cap numbers change if he retires unless he willingly restructures to give money back out the goodness of his heart.

Because he might not want to be embarrassed as a third string QB for the rest of his career answering questions from the media daily? He's already made enough money playing, and he can do other things he enjoys doing. Perhaps get a job and make money commentating.

How's is he going to get injured not playing and playing in a 3rd string red QB jersey practicing?
Being 3rd string might be the perfect option in his head. He doesn't have to play, he doesn't have to speak to the media and he gets to keep all his money. There is no downside to being 3rd string for him if he doesn't really want to play any more.

My point is that, due to contract structure, void years, etc., it will ultimately cost more in both the short and long terms to move on at this time than to keep them on the roster for another year.

It time move on from tua. Dolphins got 2 good yr out of Tua. It is what it is. Cut man and move on. Draft Allar in third rd. Maybe u might get lucky w him.

Man I hope gms have been throwing the tua situation in the face of the pos agents demanding guaranteed money.

QUESTION: Is it possible that Tua's contract can be renegotiated to facilitate a trade since his recent comment indicates that he is good with moving on to another team? I think many teams won't consider him because of that contract.

If it is possible, I wonder if he'd be willing to do it.? Seems like it would be to his advantage to do so if it helps him get to another team.

Thank you.
We owe him ~$100M in guaranteed money. There is nothing we can do to lower that number. Teams that trade for him actually don’t have that much to worry about (outside a $20M guarantee kicker in his contract if he gets injured). The issue is that trading him doesn’t really save us money unless we convince a team to take some of it for us. That means adding picks to the deal.

Would you renegotiate a contract with that much guaranteed money and give some back? He'd be a fool to, and he isn't going to do anything to benefit the team at this point. I think he wants the money more than he wants to play at this point. That's evident by the way he checked out this year...

This exactly.

I don’t understand the logic of the whole cut him and bring in a bridge qb. He or Ewers is your bridge qb, they are already paid for. Why would you pay more just to cut him then additional $5-10 million for another qb starter? 0 sense.

Until head coach is hired no point in Tua threads. Tua was done in Miami with McDaniel however we have no idea how the new coach feels. Not to mention like you said, it in no way helps Miami to cut this year.

He's not smart enough nor entertaining enough to get a commentary job. Plus the fact that it doesn't pay nearly as much as an NFL QB...
If he's third string, the media won't be seeking him out for many interviews. Maybe initially, but that would last about a week at most in today's news cycle.
He could injure himself walking into the facility. One of those pesky no-contact injuries...

Tua is a different situation than AJ and Waddle, IMO.
