Can Tua's Contract Be Renegotiated?

This exactly.

I don’t understand the logic of the whole cut him and bring in a bridge qb. He or Ewers is your bridge qb, they are already paid for. Why would you pay more just to cut him then additional $5-10 million for another qb starter? 0 sense.

Until head coach is hired no point in Tua threads. Tua was done in Miami with McDaniel however we have no idea how the new coach feels. Not to mention like you said, it in no way helps Miami to cut this year.
I think the $20 million injury guarantee plays into the thought process. I've been doin some research and I don't think he can be barred from training with the team so long as he's on the roster, so that risk still exists even if he doesn't play another down.

Nah it’s being way overblown here. Doubt it’s even a thought and people sound crazy barred from the facility lol stop.

It’s a non factor as long as you get past 2026. After that even worse case scenario it’s all manageable. Miami will have more money in 2027 then they could ever spend in a single offseason.

Why wouldn't a $20 million injury guarantee be a thought?

Does the 20 million insurance policy negate his salary?

If so, let him play; it will be cheaper in the end.

I expect Tua to be with the Fins in 2026. Financially, I just don't see another path that makes sense. You let him and Ewers battle it out for the QB1 spot

The other thing that could happen is a contender has their QB go down early next year and need a placeholder QB. There I can see a move being made with Tua with us still eating the bulk of his contract. Outside of that, I think he is still here next year

Because Miami has so much money in 2027 that it really doesn’t matter, they can move on effortlessly either way. Miami doesn’t have enough good players to spend 100 million plus on for contracts due to pretty much not hitting anyone in 2022/2023 or 2024 drafts and spending 100 million on free agency is nearly impossible. Multiple teams had close to that last offseason and not one spent all of it. Not to mention we just hired someone from the packers which is notoriously frugal. If the apple fell close to the tree which it likely did don’t expect some crazy offseason of spending 80 to 100 million on contacts. He will be building through the draft. If anyone thinks that by getting out of Tua’s contract means they will go on some crazy spending spree they are highly delusional. Whether they have 80 or 100 or 120 million, we will not be spending it, certainly not with who we just hired.

Worrying about an extra 20 million while even in worse case you have 100 million plus is crazy not to mention the chances of qualifying for that is still incredibly low. I’m not an expert on but I don’t think it’s simply if he gets injured and can’t play the following year, I’m pretty sure it’s like forced retirement which if he was cleared for from like 3 concussions in a year as well as what’s described as one of the most devastating injuries a player can get to his hip then we are talking something incredibly unlikely.

I’m curious what this new GM and coach are thinking when it comes to Tua. Is he definitely done here? Hoping so, but I guess we need to wait and see.
We all assumed he was done. A new GM, new coach, and a healthy/dedicated Tua, you never know in this league. I wouldn't be completely shocked now to see Tua as the QB this year.

Are you considering the financial ramifications? Or is this just emotional opinions on individual players?

I ask because I don't really see any tangible benefit of cutting AJ or trading Waddle at this point.

Most on here are just emotional and don't understand the financial impacts at all.

Do what the Mets did with Bobby Bonilla
Pay him 1M every year for the next 40 years or whatever

Exactly. I’ve never seen an overreaction to a single year like this before. He definitely had a down year but I also think we had many scheme and personal issues that made things worse.

We have no idea what the new coach may want, he was certainly done if McDaniel was brought back as I believe their relationship was ruined. With a new coach however may change things. I don’t think he’s the future anymore but no reason he can’t be the qb for next year and 2027 in the event coaches want to sit and develop a rookie. Again we’ve hired the packers organization member where they sat both Rodgers and love. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same logic is applied even if a rookie qb is taken early 2027.

Do you really believe Tua is a guy you want grooming the next QB?

A guy who thinks anything in the NFL business world is dope, throws teammates under the bus, can't QB sneak, can't read defenses, and can't adlib?

Do you believe he can turn all of that around in one off-season? Do you remember his first game this past season? The game he had all summer to prepare?

I don't mean to come off as aggressive or insulting. The Tua we have seen is not the guy I have any confidence in when it comes to teaching a newbie.

He needs to resurrect somewhere else.

The Dolphins need to move forward.
