It seems to me Ernest Wilford is jumping back and forth between TE's and WR's, ....It's either the guy cannot find his groove at either position or he is simply good enough to play both positions and the staff are using him as a multi-threat...but from what i've read he is still dropping passes

I recently read the Bengals starting TE Reggie Kelly rupture an achilles tendon and could miss a significant amount of time....so why not shop Ernest Wilford to the Bengals?

I'm guessing alot of teams are probably going to wait and see who is cut from the pre-season rosters, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to began shopping Ernset Wilford.

We are going to need to display him a bit and for him to show he still got it in one of the preseason games if we ever hope to have a trade partner for him, if not only other option is to cut or 53man roster which I dont beleive he deserves.

Reggie Kelly was first and foremost a blocking TE for the Bengals, so I highly doubt that they would trade for Wilford as a replacement.

But regardless of that, why would any team give up anything for a player that caught 3 (?) passes last year and "is still dropping passes"?

Good point...

But I would take a bag of Doritos for him right now....seriously, as long as someone can pick up his salary so we don't take that bad a cap hit, would be doing us a favor...

Because he can confuse the defense! Or something...

don't forget, Cincinnati drafted Chase Coffman and they still have Ben Utecht. they don't really have any use for Wilford.

Sparano said today at his press conference that Wilford weighed in at 232 pounds which is far too small for an NFL TE who is expected to block. Also I read what someone said about Wilford during practices. They said Wilford is way too slow off the ball. Even slower then the slowest Tight End. Cut him and be done with it.

cap hit would be the same regardless of whether we trade him or release him.

my first thought when I saw that Kelly was gone for the year was trying to dangle Martin (I like him, but he's in the final year or his contract) but he's more of a receiver than blocker too.

Ultimately, I don't see the Bengals trading for any TE to replace him...they have intriguing options on the roster already in Utecht and rookie Chase Coffman, and a blocking TE probably wouldn't be too hard to find as a FA (Kyle Brady still playing?)

we'd probably trad him to a team and GIVE THEM a 6th round pick if the salay cap mess would go away...

It sucks that as soon as he got to Miami he started just sucking. Almost seems like he's doing it on purpose.. I can understand not understanding a system, but you don't all of a sudden forget how to catch passes or run routes..

Would be nice, I'd take anything for him just to dump his salary. Unfortunatley he has no trade value whatsoever so a trade seems unlikely.

do you really think we didn't try to get rid of him ?

i'm pretty sure this staff would swap 7th rounders and give ernest away just to get rid of his contract

We couldn't GIVE a team a draft pick to get rid of Wilford. Not even the Redskins or the Raiders are that stupid.
