I know there's already threads about people refusing the Dolphins GM job but I still felt like posting because of how upset I am. Our once proud franchise is being destroyed slowly but surely. I have never heard of so many candidates turning down a bump in pay and a chance for advancement in their careers. That makes at least two candidates deciding to stay at franchises worse off than the Dolphins because of what they have seen or heard about this organization. hope everything in the future turns out to be ok and we write the ship. But based on what I've heard over the past few days and seen this organization is a sinking ship that needs to be abandoned and Ross need to clean house or sell the organization to somebody who knows what the hell they're doing.

but that's part of the problem you see, they may not see it as a raise or advancement.

Farmer may have been offered a raise in Cleveland to stay. We don't know. I know they didn't want to see him go.

I think time in Mobile at the senior bowl was a negative for the franchise. All these guys and every other NFL front office type could get together and talk about the situation. I'm sure they heard plenty of gossip and crap.

secondly, with the Browns now hiring a new coach, I'm starting to believe this is more about Philbin than structure.

Something tells me Farmer was a part of the Pettine hire and he believes in him more than Philbin.

All GMs want "their" guys.

Are you trying to say half measures aren't the best way to build a team? LOL, wish somebody could convince Ross of that

I don't really like the GM candidates but until you can tell me someone better out there (Who is looking to move or be hired) is a better candidate, I'm not going to cry over it. I do however want to know who and why we should want out of the candidates.

All this talk about this guy and that guy not wanting the job because the mess the Dolphins are in is stupid. NFL teams for the most part only hire GM's when things aren't going well. Are all these candidates waiting for the Patriots GM job? Maybe the Packers? A NFL GM job is a rare thing and not an easy thing to land. If a guy thinks the Dolphins job is "to messy" that translates into we don't want his ass anyway because even HE feels the job is over his head. As for the Dolphins being a bad job, it isn't. Ross has made mistakes but he also has proven he will make changes to improve things. The Dolphins haven't been a team that isn't willing to spend money. Nationally, Tannehill is considered a guy with upside and a bright future (Unfortunately these boards don't share that opinion). Miami could of clinched the playoffs with two weeks remaining, they didn't and that sucks, but being they were in position that's a big deal. You think these candidates who Supposedly turned down interviews or the jobs are going to get other offers like that? Not likely.

Just wait till next year when we go 7-9, Philbin is fired and we can't find a coach to come here.

It will never get fixed until we have a new owner.....this guy is just as toxic as the Marlins owner. When you are rotten at your core there is no fixing the problem. I so hope someone makes him an offer he can't refuse and he sells the team. It is so sad to see this franchise which once was the envy of the league fall so far from grace. What frustrates me most is we keep setting this franchise back. Who in there right mind will want to play here next season with all this disfunction. This owner does not know what it takes to build a winner and the people surrounding him are giving him some real bad advice! So sad a time to be a dolphin fan!

Because every GM candidate realizes their hands will be tied to Philbin/Tannehill and have to work for Doofey Stephen Ross so, really..who would want to put their eggs in that basket? All these candidates KNOW that better opening's will come around where they can find "their" guys to put as HC and QB, not being told "THIS IS WHAT YOU GET" in RT and Philbin.

It's been 20 years since this team was proud. It isn't just happening now.

This "sinking ship" isn't something that sprung a leak over night. Look back at the history of the franchise, when Joe R passed, Wayne Huizenga purchased shares of the team from his family and slowly going the company route, he turned profit with stadium naming rights to a company that eventually went under, he turned major profits from the team in general like a wise businessman he sold when it was done churning out profit for him(aka after the Marino days), he held the team together in media aspect for awhile after Marino. As much as I want the team to turn it around and see it restored, that may not happen with the current settings of the team power, so what we can hope for is either whoever the next GM is has one hell of a stellar draft, fa and the team can build on what they already have, if the ship does the whole down, Ross is no moron, he will take the business route and cut his losses and sell the team because the stadium is only going to look even more empty if we continue to repeat the last decade. Either way, we as a fan base are in either for a slow turn around process or a ugly shipwreck

If history has anything to do with this, i'll take the latter over the former.

As long as we're in this stadium, I see no reason for heightened expectations. The details change slightly but it always rounds out to overmatched. If we had sharp people atop the organization we would be out of the stadium, not determined to patch it and waste another 25 years.

Always slant to the low end on the Dolphins and you'll seldom be scrambling to change your tune. Darlington insists it's a coveted position. What was his mistake? He tilted toward the high end. Tannehill will be elite. That's slanting toward the high end also.

It's the stadium stupid. I believe an overview predicts and explains with far greater clarity than dissecting every variable along the line. Unfortunately Huizenga sold to someone who was even more inept than he was in grasping the detriment of playing in such a pathetic venue. Robbie may have built the place but he wouldn't have been stubborn and stupid enough to remain there decades after it was verified as a failure. Robbie made a bold move with Shula and a bold move building his own stadium with private funding. Now we make slow hesitant tiny moves, ones worthy of a patchwork football mind.

Nothing sounds good when your gonna have all the pressure of the GM, but, have the fourth voice inside the FO behind Ross, Aponte, and Philbin....seems like the new guy has to accept the fact that his opinion will mean very little, and most candidates probably dont want a job where they feel like they are always stepping on nails unless they are that desperate to prove themselves. The new guy will basically be a scapegoat for Aponte and Philbin when things go wrong this year. We mine as well just go combo pack for GM with Aponte, Philbin and Ross (the three stooges, Moe=Aponte), instead of just bringing in a guy just so we can put the GM label on somebody.

Look, we finished 8 - 8 and were competitive in every game until the last two when the wheels fell off. The season finished dreadfully but this team isn't the total calamity that you are making it out to be. We have a good young QB who will only get better when we get some decent O-linemen. Ireland bet the farm on both Martin and Incognito and they both disappeared. Incognito turned out to be a sociopath in training and he was the O-line team leader to mentor a very sensitive 300 lb 2nd round draft pick. To be honest, I think that we are better off without either of them. Ireland used draft picks and spent big $ on the O-line nearly every year and he just couldn't find talent. With better O-line drafting and recruitment we will be able to protect Tannehill and also get a decent running game.
I can remember when the team went 1 - 15 under Cam Cameron, and you have to see that we are in a better place than we were then. Unfortunately I wasn't around for the perfect '72 season. Their legacy of perfection will last forever. However, I support the team now and don't just reminisce. Stephen Ross and Joe Philbin are good men and they are trying to fix this team. We just need a GM who is similarly honorable and will work with them to get the necessary players.
If Ray Farmer wasn't prepared to have a second interview to potentially get the GM role and double his income, then maybe he doesn't have the sort of character that we really need. A candidate sought not to accept a second interview, why does the make the Miami Dolphins a total shipwreck?
I'm behind Joe Philbin 100%. Who's with me?

^^^^THIS x100...

and I have one question.....how do some of you know why these guys turned down the job? people on this site talk about this stuff like they KNOW exactly what
is going on behind closed doors and KNOW exactly who is doing what , etc

you sound just like the media guys, who get crucified on here for doing the same thing!!!! when all people are doing is speculating (and probably totally wrong) and getting all worked up over it for nothing!

Like I saw on here the other day....STEP BACK FROM THE LEDGE......
