Most owners are not great football minds. They hire people to do that job. A good owner provides the red light too the football people too go
get the right players and right coaches. Only thing you can blame the owner for is not putting the proper people in positions too run the team.
I'm not gonna crucify Ross for that. He brought Parcels in who wouldn't of done that at the time. It just didn't work out. Saban also was not a bad choice at the time it just didn't work out. Listening too Parcels advice too keep Ireland on as GM ok that was a mistake and maybe the Cam Cameron one year fiasco. Ross has not
done a bad job in putting the right people in place and he most certainly doesn't have a problem in spending the money. The regimes that we had in here
just have not gotten the job done. If he was a cheap owner or a medling owner or a egotistical owner then I would be more inclined too blame Ross. Most Gm's and
coaches would love too work for Ross cause he stays out of football affairs and spends money on his players. Miami is actually an attractive place for any Gm or
coaching staff.

...how long do you think Ross has been the owner? You listed Saban, Cameron, Parcells...wut?

And Ross ran a piss poor coaching search and an even worse GM search. He consistently makes bad decisions(not even counting all the times hes outright embarrassed this franchise). This is absolutely on him.

So, when Ross doesn't hire good people to do those jobs or keeps people who can't do those jobs in place too long, who gets the blame?

You can actually. A good owner would know how to bring in people that understand the mysterious and long lost concept of "winning."

You know Huizenga was still the owner during the stuff you cited? I don't expect every owner to be a great football mind, but they need to be passionate about the game and be a good judge of the people they do put in charge. Ross has shown **** judgment. The best thing he could do is give more power to Hickey and Marino. Let their football minds build the franchise.

Miami is not a coaching destination anymore. We are a long way from the glory years of Shula's tenure.
Ross cannot hire a top GM or head coach. We end up with the 4th or 5th option.
This team has been a door mat so long, that no one is willing or able to overcome the Krafty Belicheats.

Miami is a less attractive job because of Ross. The whole Harbaugh fiasco at the top of the list ... you hope you find someone who has enough confidence in themselves to override the possibility that they could run into some kind of laughingstock-making event like that or bullygate.

Seriously, if you were good enough to have options, why would you come to Miami over say the New York Giants or the San Francisco 49ers?

Ross has a tough task. IDK if this franchise or the management has any respect. He will need to throw out some serious money and persuasion to get a big name here.

-Then blatantly lying about it.
-Slamming Sparano on a radio show after he fired him
-Throwing a temper tantrum after his stadium proposal wasn't called up
-Repeatedly declaring hes going to get involved with Florida politics
-Announcing he was "forming a team" involving Jason Taylor and Tony Dungy after Bullygate
-His build-up over the new logo...only for it to be leaked

Theres been a few more "off the field" events that i just cant remember at this moment(people can feel free to add to the list). Fact is, Ross is a bottom tier owner. Which directly results in a mediocre product on the field.

And even if you dont want to blame Ross for not "understanding the NFL"(thank god he willingly bought an NFL team, amirite?), then how about blaming him for who hes hired as advisers. In a league littered with shrewd thinkers and savvy decision makers, Ross has turned to the likes of Carl Peterson, Mike Tannenbaum, and Eric Mangini for advice. :bobdole:

Leadership starts at the top. If the top isn't held accountable for failure it will never change!

I actually don't mind Ross as an owner, he is willing to spend and has no desire to play GM. And he does want to win badly.

However, the one big mistake in my eyes was not cleaning house last yr and sending Philbin packing at same time as Ireland. That cost us the ability to get a top tier GM as well as a top tier HC by forcing Philbin upon whoever was hired. I don't even mind him going after Harbaugh a few yrs ago bc at least he tried. We all knew sparano wasn't the long term answer and he was trying to upgrade.

Hopefully this time he sends Philbin and anyone else packing to get the best coach in here.

Owner willing to spend money is good in my book. With Marino on board to whisper sense in his ear, let the coaching search begin.
