Yeah, sure, gimmick plays can be fun from time to time. But for us, it feels like they are an inherent part of our offensive gameplan. And that would be great -- if we knew how to score without them. Instead, it feels like we are relying on some outlandish offensive draw-up in order to keep even with the opposing team.
I think that, the fact that Gase feels obligation to rely on these sorts of play calls on a regular basis, tells you a lot about his confidence with our offense as a whole. He knows there's no chance we are going to beat the opposing team playing traditional pocket pass, stuff it down your throat style of football that New England plays.
Heck, even the initial Drake TD run required us to think outside the box by dropping James to pass block rather than attack Watt head on. Just tired of it, and it's clearly not a recipe for winning in the NFL. Just like the wildcat, the league catches on to these sorts of gameplans sooner or later.
While we obviously need a QB as soon as next season, the main priority should be offensive line. Half the reason we have to rely on gimmicks is because Gase knows the line isn't competent enough to give whoever's in at QB the time to sit in the pocket and make his reads.
