Cap Hits - 2025

Bro, we can certainly crucify Ross for Grier but think about the attempts that have failed. They were all swings for the fences that you can’t hate on the guy for.

+ He sent a chopper for Harbaugh.

+ He offered money to Flores to do exactly what the fans were clamoring for- a tank- & we all know now it would’ve been Burrow.

+ He was going to sell a piece to Brady which I WOULD’VE DETESTED but what more of a competitor could you ask for? You know Brady would have been INVOLVED.

+ He almost had Sean Payton reeled in.

+ McDaniel was one of the biggest rising stars in the NFL.

Call it bad luck, misfortune or the curse but he’s CERTAINLY TRIED.
This whole post reads like praise for the guy who tried to rob the bank with a note and a water pistol -- the bank that had guards armed with machine guns standing inside the lobby.

"He CERTAINLY TRIED."

All of what you spelled out doesn't excuse Stephen Ross for being a dumbass who hasn't learned a thing about professional football in 15 years.

I really don't expect much from this team in 2025 on improvement with the return of the GM and Coach.

However, there are some serious cap hits the Dolphins need to deal with. Outside what we are already carrying forward, with
Howard $15.7 million and Shaq Barrett $4.4 million. They have the some significant hits staring at them in the face:

Should they cut or trade any of these guys after June 1st they would receive some cap savings: My opinion - get rid of them all
Armstead - Savings 14 Mil
Hill - Trade 16 mil
Chubb - 20 mil
These are pretty good savings in the cap for 2 players that are injury prone and one that has some trade value.
These players I would out-right cut that would have no cap hits but save money- Ferguson & Ezukanma
These players I would cut with small dead cap hits - Tindall, Bailey, Mostert, Smith

Finally this list of guys I would try and negotiate a team friendly restructure:
Jalen Ramsey $16.6 million - Unwilling - Trade him- still has value
Austin Jackson $14 million - Unwilling - Send him packing
Jaelan Phillips $13.3 million - Unwilling - Trade
Zach Sieler $12.4 million - Unwilling - Keep him

I would also try and restructure Smythe

Again - Dolphins have some serious issues with cap space and REAL holes on the team. I would start the process now and rebuild from the draft and back-off on FA's. I don't think this team is a contender any longer and is on a backward slide. You may have a different opinion, I just don't see any improvement with the return of a status quo
What you are proposing is a gut and re-build. It won't happen this season with McD in job-save mode, but who knows in '26. What I think happens is McD gets sh*t-canned before the end of this coming season and Weaver takes over as interim, then gets the full-time HC designation in '26. This way the Dolphins won't have to out-bid another team for his services. IMO, McD's days are numbered. The writing is on the wall with this guy. He will go on to become a highly-paid OC for another team, maybe back to the 49'ers. At that time, a gut re-build might happen with Weaver building the team in his vision with yes-man Grier at his side.

If the idea was to reset/rebuild, I would agree. Shed burdensome contracts and eat the dead money, accepting a down year.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on one's POV, It appears they are going to try to stay competitive and give the current regime one more bite at the apple.

The Armstead issue may solve itself, but if the team is trying to field a quality team, Chubb, Hill and Ramsey would be nearly impossible to replace with even close to equal talent.

I have been thinking I would designate Chubby a post June 1st cut, but even there you run the risk of not having enough quality pass rushers. I can't count on Phillips at this point.
I think Grier will go to FA for a veteran, oft-injured OG and pick up another in the 4th rd. On pass-rush, he will go back to his favorite: Day One Edge. "Need more cowbell!"

Trading Hill and Chubb at their worst trade value wouldn’t be wise.

Ramsey was already restructured essentially prior to 2024, his later cap numbers in 2026-2028 are outrageous with void year in 2029.
What exactly are you looking to do with his contract beyond 2025?

You can’t restructure Phillips. He’s on 5th year fully guaranteed option. You’d have to give him an extension in order to defer cap hit into future years.

Yea, yea. And give the Guard a $100 mil contract, I'm sure he will try to trade for Rodgers too. Maybe we can Jerry Rice or Michael Irvin to come play... Just stop.

Only a dumba$$ calls a dumba$$ a dumba$$ for continuing to make millions upon millions despite whatever you hold as fact, fiction or somewhere in between.
