Cap ramifications for cutting AJ

good post..

I just don't think there is a need for AJ Feeley on this team anymore.. He's too scared of his o-line, he can't get over it.

I had to attempt a lame way of bumping the post because I know bumping is against TOS. :couch:

This question is asked a lot, and I thought that it needed another go around at the top for people that hadn't seen it over the weekend.

Hey, it's abundantly clear that A.J. is all talent, no head. He can make amazing throws, but he just doesn't have the football mentality to use them. He crumbles under pressure!

Too bad really! If we can cut him w/ relatively little impact, it's probably time.

I'm glad you did because I was wondering what the deal was with his cap.. It's pennies, which is good.. Thanks Rick.

Give him a chance! He needs to develop like all qbs'.

He has to be best friends w/ Spielman. He owes him a few steak dinners and a cruise around the world. RS was Feeley's winning lotto ticket. I mean $18 mill. For a 3rd stringer. I bet Detmer is wanting to move down on the depth chart. What is Vollek getting. Minimum! Big difference.

I would agree with you if Feeley seemed to help his cause. he's not taking the most of his opportunity. I had patience with him last season. But this is the year he has to step up... He has to elevate his game. we all said it here last year and all offseason. Feeley just hasnt met the challenge. I was a Feeley supporter, and when we signed Frerrotte I sighed deeply. But WHEN THE SEASON STARTS I want the best player possible who makes the best decisions, manages the game the best. And Feeley better proving his worth now. Before they start meaning something.

That'd be so great. I get so much crap from my buddies because of Feeley. It's sad when I'm sayin "Hey at least Frerotte aint Feeley" 4 year 19 mil? Ridiculous.

I think that once he got the big contract his competitive drive went to neutral. It seems as if he is playing not to get hurt. My true impressions are that he is just a pretty boy QB that gives others playing hard at that position a bad name.

I wonder if his contract can be restructured. It needs to be because he is playing his a** off right into a backup position.

just bringing this thread back, because LarryFinFan was telling people we'd take a 1.1 mil cap hit this year for cutting him (which is not true), I had also made a math error in calculating the cap hit previously (looked at Clumpy's cap page, and was like, "oh yeah.".

NFL salaries are not guaranteed unless the player is on the opening day roster. Therefore, AJ's cap # is only 1.14 million if he's on the roster for the Denver game. Otherwise, if he's cut before that, we get his salary back, and it'll only cost us $600,000. If Berlin was resigned to be the third QB for example, and signed for the rookie min, we actually save money in 2K5 by releasing Feeley now.

May not happen, but the cap hit IS NOT 1.14 mil for this year.

We wont cut AJ, we need to keep him 2nd or 3rd on the roster. Too bad we cant trade him.
i don't think Saban will keep a 2nd or 3rd string QB on the roster that is making $3 mil/year.

If AJ doesn't win the starting job this year, he's gone.
