I know this has probably been asked already but what is our cap situation after we cut gus? Sorry again.

All depends on Pep's contract, I know Minnisota has to pay the remainder
of his signing bonus, we are responsible for his BASE pay...
We also saved 4.43 mil by letting Gus walk.
Where is CLUMP when you need him....

Culpepper's base salary this season is $2 million. We are also on the hook for the $6 million roster bonus he is owed late next week, but he has said he is willing to rework his contract to make it more cap-friendly. My guess is that he cuts it in half and the Dolphins guarantee it, which lets it be spread over the rest of his contract (which runs through 2013).

I think I read on ESPN that cutting Gus saved 1.4 million. I would imagine in the next few days you will see guys like Culpepper, JT,Zach and K.Carter restructure there contracts. Miami has to be pretty tight on the cap as we speak but i'm sure they are no wheres near done with moves. Through out this hole Bree's fiasco, Miami was saying that they wanted that situation takin care of so they could move on to other positions.

Not the pro-rated portion of his 2006 ( they spread the signing bonus
over the length of the contract)
Now, if they RESTRUCTURE Pep's contract, all of this guessing and second guessing will be for not.
I'm pretty sure he is going to restructure.

ESPN is wrong ( and its not the first time).

FROM ANOTHER BOARD...

Hyped... since its a trade, I'm pretty sure the Vikings are stuck with the original signing bonus - while the Dolphins will pick up his base salary's plus the 6mil. roster bonus due this month (spread over the length of the contract I believe).

Culpepper salaries:
2006- $2,000,000
2007- $5,500,000
2008- $6,000,000
2009- $6,000,000
2010- $7,000,000
2011- $8,000,000
2012- $9,000,000
2013- $10,000,000

If I'm correct, Culpepper's 2006 cap hit will fit ALONG WITH all three FA signee's the Dolphins have already inked without making another single move.

However, should more moves be necessary and/or desirable - Miami can gain 6 million in cap room by simply guaranteeing Jason Taylors 2006 salary. An additional 4 million + by cutting Gus Frerrote, and Kevin Carter/Zach Thomas have already stated their willingness to renegotiate as well.

I think that was the combined savings in aquiring Culp and cutting Gus.

No, starting this year, you can only spread out bonus $$ for 4 yrs max.

The SB is due Friday and we will be responsible for that. His base is $2 mil plus the prorated $6 mil signing bonus. At this point, his cap hit would be $3.5 mil for this season. Next season would be $7 mil...I forget the figures beyond that...

My guess is there will be a new contract worked out before the SB is due...
