Cap space and next years FA's?

Dolphins will wait to sign veterans next off season............if, and only if, they are able to sign the young elite free agents they are targeting; otherwise, they will wait until 2021 to sign the huge money free agents that are close to, or around age 30.

In 2020, the FA's have to be mid twenties to fit the paradigm.

Truth hurts and just being real, not getting my hopes up. It's only week 2 and I think there's more to come that will give players 2nd thoughts before wanting to come here
I get it. But there should be a huge gap between getting your hopes up and worst case scenario.

The truth will likely lie somewhere in that gap.

Can't wait to pay players the caliber of Trent Brown, Nate Solder, Ja'wain James, Matt Kalil and Reilly Reiff $50-60 mil/4 yrs. What do some of you guys think this cap space is going to buy? It's not like we don't have empirical evidence going back 25-years proving that spending big money in free agency yields nothing.

Here are the top spenders in free agency by year since 2012 and their records before and 2 years after their splurges:
2012: Bucs $162 mil.
4-12, 7-9, 4-12,
2013: Fins $160 mil.
7-9, 8-8, 8-8
2014: Bucs $152 mil.
4-12, 2-14, 6-10
2015: NYJ $183 mil.
4-12, 10-6, 5-11
2016: Jags $230 mil.
5-11, 3-13, 10-6
2017: Jags $168 mil.
10-6, 5-11, 0-2

These are only the top spenders in a given year, if you looked at the top 5 spenders in a given year the results are the same.

The issue is that teams never use cap space in a wise manner. If you look at how the money was spent, it would show these teams spent it on 3-5 players and handed out ludicrous contracts in the process. Often teams believe that these 4-5 players can push them over the top. I remember reading dolphins forums and seeing the excitement over that 2013 free agent class, got us no where.

Chris grier and Flores are a much different combo from Gase and tannebaum. They seem to value strength in numbers and less flash when approaching free agency. The other two believed paying a ransom to a bunch of mercenaries would equate to wins. It crippled us because our financials were ******* all so they could get their ducks in a row

I still would perfer only looking a free agents who are 26 and under. And second tier starter types. The main players should come in the next two drafts

I see less large contracts and more smaller prove it contracts unless the player is young and is a building block. Otherwise, what you see today will continue except we'll have a bunch of new players via draft.

Yea let's talk about undrafted free agents in 2020, it's not too early.for that. I will be back when I am done doing my 7 round mock draft in 2020.
