How much cap space do we have left?
I believe we have more remaining than most teams... someone please give me the number if it is made available..

Maybe the reason why we've signed a few Cowboy castoffs and JT for the low vs some high quality FAs out there is because we're saving cap room to give Orton his contract.

I feel like the FO is still waiting to pull the trigger on a big move (maybe Orton, maybe someone else).

The fact that we have so many quality players at the d line also makes me wonder if we could be shopping a few guys in trades.

Just my opinion, but I sense there will be a big move within the next week, they're holding off for someone.

Also if were going to win football games its going to be on line so I'm glad we are looking MORE solid in that department vs years past

we are focusing on bringing in veteran cheap quality guys on the oline right now because lets face it our Running game was putrid last year and between Pouncey coming in late and not looking amazing the first two days and jake long coming in on the pup list it looks like we may be screwed if we don't get something figured out and figured out fast.

As for cap space i dont believe we have too much space left. Im guessing around 5 million at the most. depends on what the contracts of these guys recently signed were for. we still haven't seen the cap hit i dont believe for Pouncey, Burnett, JT or Fields for 2011. So its hard to really accurately guess.

One thing that would be interesting is if they cut Carey. Which is something that seems to be a possibility with the columbo signing and we will just have to wait to see how that plays out. Im sure that it would carey a cap hit to release him but he carries a pretty big cap number so if he is cut then i will believe we are still thinking about doing something big

Before the Colombo and JT signings, Ben Violin had us at around $5-7M under the cap. Omar Kelly said he thought it was between $4-5M under. So, with those signings, we are somewhere between $2.5M and $5M.

Cutting Carey could cost us additional money against the cap, because you'd need to accelerate $8M of his signing bonus on to the books immediately. Although, with the new CBA, there is a possibiltiy that money could not be counted until next season.

We could still sign big Paul to a long-term deal as well, and that would cut down our cap number quite a bit

YEa definitely would. Also would be a leap of faith by the front office i mean this guy came out of no where to become a dominant player. Dont want to make a huge long term commitment based on one year sometimes.

Also any remaining cap may be used to lock up some guys like Wake long term
