Capers came up with good game defensive plans; especially after the bye week. I think he did a great job with the personal he had. Why do people give credit to Saban for the defensive schemes? Like I stated in another thread.... Saban came up with the brilliant scheme to have the CB's and safety's play a zone coverage where they let opposing wr's catch the ball in wide open spaces on the field and then try to tackle them in the open field. Saban is a true defensive genius. :sidelol: :sidelol::sidelol: I am glad the Dolphins retained Capers because he was the real defensive genius and we need him in 2007. Hopefully we get B. Shottenheimer to be our new Head Coach.:dolphins::evil::dolphins:Go Dolphins!

Saban was the one who installed the defense. If you remember, Capers wasnt even the defensive coordinator. His official title was "Assistant to the Coach" or something ridiculous like that. Saban installed his scheme and Capers ran it, or I should say, oversaw it. The whole moving JT around allowing him to do crazy things, yeah, that was Saban's scheme. Capers is a good defensive coordinator, and I have a feeling if we get an offensive minded coach, he'll be allowed to explore more of his own options then a system that Saban installed and let him run.

Yea but the reason capers had that title was that he could not move from the Texans to the Fins and take the same DC job (need promotion to move to another team if still under contract) so Saban called him his assistant but he was still the defensive coordinator just like he was for the Texans.

Capers was the head coach for the Texans. I don't know why he had that title, but for all intents and purposes he was the miami defensive coordinator. He was originally hired while the Dolphins still had a defensive coordinator, thus the original title as assistant head coach.:dolphins::evil:

The Reason Capers last year only had the title of defensive assitant / Head Coach was because if he was Named Defensive Coordinator then the Texans would not have been on the hook for the remaining salary they owed him because they had fired him. The Dolphins would have been on the hook for his salary and the Difference between what he made from the Dolphins would have been subtracted from what he was owed from the Texans. So in essence the Dolphins had a very cheap D-Coordinator last year that was not paid what he was worth until today....This is why he could not officially be called D-Coordinator last year because of his salary situation....

Capers wasn't the DC in Houston, he was head coach. He got fired. His job with Miami last year was definitely not a promotion from being the Texans' head coach.
The reason why he was not given the DC title was that Houston still had to pay him his full salary last year, from what I read, unless he took another head coaching job or a coordinator position.

Thank you I stand corrected.:dolphins:

how do you know this?

to date i don't think anyone has spoken on who did what and i seriously doubt with capers signed we will ever him answer the above.

lol it was Sabans Defense he was running yo.............. Capers had never ran a hybrid 3-4 / 4-3 in his life.... Also Capers is a great defensive mind but it was understood by most that Saban was one of the top defensive minds in the NFL.

Actually, the opposite is true on both counts.

If anything, Capers has proven to be a great NFL defensive mind over a much longer period than Saban.

Also, Capers ran that defense. Just like Will Muschamp ran the defense the previous year. Saban understandably did not want to pull double-duty.

I hate Saban for how he left us, but he was a very good defense coach. He brought on Capers for assistance but Saban was the guy who ran this defense. I am happy with Capers taking over the defense duties because he is a very good DC, but the success for Dolphins' D should be credited to Saban.

wait what ???? Your confusing me..... i think you read my post wrong... thats not uncommon the way i type:lol: I never said Capers didnt run the defense, i said he never ran a hybrid D before now so the opposite isn't true there lol. And yes Saban was considered a top defensive mind in the NFL, by some atleast... even more so than Capers when a poll of sports reporters was taken for SI mag. Sorry, it's just nobody likes being told they're completely wrong when they're not.:D
