OK guys… Here are some things to think about while you are wishing for a GEM in the first round for our FINS… I have taken the time to go out and do some RESEARCH before opening my mouth…:rolleyes2

You SHOULD notice that ALL first round picks took a minimum of 6 years in development before reaching a SUPERBOWL, with the exception of BIG BEN! Now the list only contains the last 10 and the up-coming BOWL games… I know that ELWAY was in a few BOWL games before that, so please don’t go there… REMEMBER, THIS IS BASED ON THE PAST 11 YEARS!:D

I picked the last 11 years because they had the FULL salary cap thing in place and as we all know, it REALLY changed the game!!!

I DO however want to point out that of the past 11 SUPERBOWLS, which includes the one this weekend, 8 of those games had at least 1… 1st round QB playing in it… There is actually 1 SUPERBOWL that had 2… 1st round QBs playing!!! (SEE 2001) That is a total off 9 1st round draft picks in the SUPERBOWL in the past 11 years… NOT BAD!!! This DOES include repeats by 1 QB though… ELWAY (twice)

Now look at how many times a QB, that WAS NOT selected in the 1st round, played in the SUPERBOWL in the past 11 years… 13… However, this DOES include repeats by 3 QBs!!! (FARVE, WARNER and BRADY) FARVE was a 2nd rounder (twice), WARNER was a CFL guy (twice) and BRADY was a 6th rounder (3 timer) …

I didn’t go into the 1st and 2nd round QBs that were busts… But that is another story…

Below are the last 11 SUPERBOWL teams, with the winner being on top (with the exception of the STEELER/SEAHAWKS game, MY PREDICTION only), :D and their QB, with the round that they were selected in, the year they were selected, overall pick in the draft and the team that drafted them…

1996
COWBOYS – AIKMAN – 1st round pick in 1989, 1st overall pick (COWBOYS)
STEELERS – O’DONNELL – 3rd round pick in 1990, 70th overall pick (STEELERS)

PACKERS – FARVE – 2nd round pick in 1991, 33rd overall pick (FALCONS)

1999
BRONCOS – ELWAY – 1st round pick in 1983, 1st overall pick (BALT. COLTS)
FALCONS – CHANDLER – 3rd round pick in 1988, 76th overall pick (IND. COLTS)

2000
RAMS – WARNER – CFL, Picked up by RAMS in 1998 (STL. RAMS)

2004
PATSIES – BRADY - 6th round pick in 2000, 199th overall pick (PATSIES)
PANTHERS – DELHOMME – UNDRAFTED FREE AGENT (PANTHERS)

2005
PATSIES – BRADY – 6th round pick in 2000, 199th overall pick (PATSIES)
EAGLES - MCNABB – 1st round pick in 1999, 2nd overall pick (EAGLES)

SEAHAWKS – HASSLEBECK – 6th round pick in 1998, 187th overall pick (PACKERS)

ENJOY!!! :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude:

PS... I would LOVE to hear whether you still want a 1st rounder or not...

A team goes to a SuperBowl, not a quarterback. Dan Marino never won one, and Peyton hasn't yet, but I'd certainly take those guys.

The oversight is that you take "making the SB" as "being a good QB." I'd love to hear what Dan has to say about that.

Not at all BUBBA! I am saying quite the opposite!!! What I am responding to is all the people out here screaming for a 1st round QB! I was just supplying the proof that a 1st round QB is NOT the answer!!!:tantrum:

The reason why a lot of great 1st round QB's have not made the Superbowl is because they get selected first by HORRIBLE teams. Then you see a lot of average to below average QB's like Jeff Hostetler, Doug Williams, Brad Johnson going to the big game and often winning it....NOT because of them, but because they were on good teams.

You said it took six years at least for each of them but then you proved that it only took Bledsoe and Brady four. Granted that Brady wasn't a first round pick, but Bledsoe was. Besides if we take our quarterback this year, that's one less year we have to wait.

I will take a 'franchise' left tackle please. I say we sell the farm and trade up and get D'Brick. Jay who?

You forgot Dan his second year , I didnt read the last 10 year part , fast trigger tonight, but how can you discount those drafts salary cap or not a draft pick is what it is.

I agree Roman... But there were a couple of QBs that made the big game with a team other than the one that drafted them...:D

Geez, all that research and typing and nothing but Babble.

The "answer" at QB is the player that works out to be the BEST PLAYER in the long run.

dosen't friggin matter which round he was taken in. :rolleyes2

If Saban thinks he spots a guy that will be a great QB in the NFL that is there in the 1st round then we'll take him.

If he feels there isn't one that shows enough promise to be a top QB to validate a 1st round pick then he will wait for later rounds.

Your calling out all these people that are dead set on us picking a QB in the 1st while you are doing the exact same thing just other side of the spectrum. Your just as bad!

right now i dont care where we draft a QB as long as one is drafted on the first day.

im sick of the garbage we have had down here since marino.

This is also like saying, "I've spun the roulette wheel 7 times and it's been heads 7 times. The next one just has to be heads."

Each draft of a QB is a new try.

If your argument is, "A first round QB doesn't make a SuperBowl" (which is what I think it is), it's still flawed.

1) There are SO MANY FACTORS for whether a team makes the SuperBowl or not. Peyton Manning could easily have made it the last two years. What if Roethlisberger doesn't make that tackle? What if Ty Law was called for holding two years ago? What if Palmer wasn't taken out?
2) Your study is 11 years. You'd get laughed out of court/lab if you tried to base an actual study on 11 trials.
3) A QB can get a team to a Championship game. That's been evidenced PLENTY of times. A shootout for a SB is good enough for me right now.
4) You're not comparing. Tell me how many times a first-round #1 WR has "made" a team make the SuperBowl. How many times has a first-round RB? We have to draft SOMEBODY. And your story only accounts for QBs.
