Multiple sources say the Dolphins have discussed moving right tackle Vernon Carey back to the left side, the position at which he began his career in Miami after being drafted in 2004.
The Dolphins originally drafted Carey to be a left tackle but he couldn't crack the lineup. With the tutelage of offensive line coach Hudson Houck, Carey finally came into his own last season at right tackle. He has been reluctant to switch back, sources said.

I would really like to see Carey on the other side. He might not think he is good enough but I remember him holding his own at the position.carey seems to have a bit of low self esteem, but if houck thinks he can make the switch you bet he will start at LT. We will see what happens.

[admin]Please choose thread titles more carefully. Carey could move to LT. It's not a certainty.[/admin]

Thanks for the info....
You're right, Carey had his best year last season.
But the left tackle position is different than the right side.
Usually the left tackle will have a bit more athletic ability than the right.
He has to have very quick feet and good balance to deal with the
opposing defense's best pass rusher.....

I think Cary's best fit is at right tackle. I believe that Alabi will start at left tackle unless he sucks it up when practice starts.

did you read the part that he said he is RELUCTANT to do that? dont miss the rest of the info bro.

Yeah, Carey is reluctant because he knows that the left
side takes a lot of ability...
Thats why LT's are at a premium...

Wow...the Dolphins aren't impressed with Levi Brown. That kills about 25% of the mock drafts I have seen out there. That Cam and co. wasn't willing to pay McIntosh $3 million per year as a starting LT when they don't seem to have a solid game plan for his replacement is a little disheartening IMO.

Hey, I wrote a piece over at my site about the murky LT situation. Check that out.

I summarize the Palm Beach Post article, and give my thoughts on how I think the team should proceed. Ultimately, even if the team signs Matt Lehr to play LG and keeps Hadnot, Shelton, and Carey in their positions from last year, the LT could really bring down the whole unit depending on who they get to play there. It's unquestionably the most important position in football behind QB.

I don't think Carey or Shelton should be moved. Carey played tremendously at RT, and together they created good running room for Ronnie Brown. Running to the right side was significantly more productive than to the left.

I was surprised to hear that the team isn't interested in Levi Brown, but with the draft so far away, that's most likely either rumor or false information designed to confuse other teams. I expect Alabi to get a good look at LT in training camp before they write him off, and for the team to pick one of the highly rated tackles in the draft.

Check out my article, and let me know what you think.

Well, I would hope they have a plan...
What that plan is only they know....

One things for sure. You can't seal a dam with a band-aid,
and you can't make chicken salad from chicken sh**.....

Cool... Bookmarked it, thanks......:D

remind me again why LT takes more ability than RT?

If you want a good explanation of the importance of the LT in today's game, you should definitely check out Michael Lewis' book "The Blind Side." Essentially, as the passing game matured and grew to what it is today in the NFL, the left tackle became so important because (assuming you have a right-handed QB) he is protecting the QB's blind side. Defenses routinely line up their best pass rushers over the LT and frequently the LT is left on an island to fend off the pass rush.

Thank you for explaining it in detail PhinPhan..
Thats basically what I meant....

To give themselves more options, the Dolphins are seeking a left guard in free agency. Former Atlanta Falcons guard Matt Lehr, 27, is expected to visit early next week. The Giants also have shown interest in Lehr, who started 26 games in the past two seasons. The Dolphins have discussed veteran Zach Wiegert as a possible stopgap, but he will be 35 in August.

Damn, we have to sign someone to this line.

This is exactly what it is. Let it leak like they aren't interested so they don't end up with a situation like Philly years back with Andrews and a team jumping in front because they know the Miami holes and what they are aiming for.

Whoever his "sources" are they are yanking his chain. They've made zero effort at bringing in anyone who could play LT in a pinch and Petitgout's contract wasn't that bad. So either they believe in Alabi or they are looking at Brown or a 2nd round LT to throw into the fire. It's not like Alabi play badly once he was in. The first 2 series his nerves got the better of him but he played well after that.

The part about Zach Wiegert is especially funny considering Houston's trouble with tackles for years now. If they bring in someone like Wiegert to me that's more of an opinion they think Alabi is ready and Wiegert is a body backup and 'just in case' guy.
