The CAROLINA PANTHERS Final Roster (starter, backup, rookie, new additon)

The 2006 season saw the Panthers fall short of their SuperBowl objective. Injuries to the offensive line and a weakened linebacking crew were the Panthers undoing. Going into 2007, the Carolina Panthers knew that if they were to make a run for the trophy they would have to strengthen these two critical areas. The Panthers were able to achieve just that and to an extent that was surprising. An offensive line and a linebacking crew that could field two starting units each has turned an area of weakness into an area of strength that can withstand multiple injuries and still thrive.

The 2007 Panthers will be a running machine with the addition of Joseph Addai pairing with Deshaun Foster that has the ability to kill you deep with Steve Smith and a solid group of receivers that can play the possession game.

The real story of 2007 will be a defense that has a chance to be one of the all time greats. There are no weaknesses on the defensive side and with solid depth, injuries won't be a factor

The Carolina Panthers have achieved the tried and true SuperBowl winning formula of having a shutdown defense and a time consuming running attack. Vince Lombardi, hope you like you the BBQ party we're going to throw in February.

QB Jake Delhomme/ Jim Sorgi / Kevin Kolb
Delhomme had an off year for him last season after the offensive line fell apart. With a return to a run first strategy and a vastly improved offensive line, there is no reason to believe that Delhomme isn't going to return to his winning ways that got the Panthers within four points of winning a SuperBowl against the Patriots. We were happy to acquire Jim Sorgi as our backup to Delhomme for our SuperBowl run. A vast improvement over the disastrous Weinke, we not only have a solid backup who has a great grasp of offensive philosophy but a great tutor for our future quarterback Kevin Kolb. Kolb has all the tools you look for in a QB but will need at least two years on the bench learning how to play a pro style offense.
FB Brad Hoover/ Cory Anderson
Hoover is everything you want in a fullback so no change was needed here. Cory Anderson is a ferocious blocker and is good in the passing game. With our running backs we dont need anything else out of a fullback and he'll get to spell Hoover occasionally throughout the games
RB Joseph Addai/ DeShaun Foster/ Nick Goings/ Musa Smith
We weren't looking to upgrade the running backs when the offseason started but that's just what we were able to do. Joseph Addai is a huge upgrade over Deangelo Williams and Deshaun Foster is still dangerous. We envision a split of running time between the two to keep them both fresh with Addai getting about 60% of the snaps. Nick Goings will get a handful of snaps as will Musa Smith who has shown flashes but has had trouble staying healthy. Overall we're thrilled to be able to get the kind of depth needed to be able to withstand an injury or two and still be able to dominate on the ground
WR Steve Smith
What more needs to be said about one of the most explosive receivers in the NFL. With an improved offensive line buying Jake more time and a dominating run game to prevent defenses from keying on Smith, a return to the eye opening long gainers is sure to become a common occurenece in Carolina once again
WR D.J. Hackett / Jacoby Lane
Hackett logged in a solid performance in Seattle last year for Seattle. Teamed up with Steve Smith, the Panthers were able to find the perfect compliment to the game breaker. With the extra attention that will be paid to Smith, Hackett should be able to notch some spectacular numbers this year. Behind him the Panthers drafted Jacoby Lane. A standout at the East West Shrine game, we feel we have a potential sleeper pick here. Fantastic quickness and size he has all the physical tools to excel at the next level.

WR Drew Carter / Keary Colbert
Drew Carter and Colbert are soilid receivers and one of the better 3 and 4 receiver combos in the league

TE Michael Gaines / Dwayne Blakely/ Ernie Conwell
Carolina main use for Tight End is as an extra lineman to help out in the run game. Michael Gaines is one of the best blocking tight ends in the league and the run first philosophy we intend to employ suits his talent to a tee. Blakely has great size and we feel he is ready to step up his game in a more prominent role. We envision using him more in two tight end sets and to exploit his pass catching ability. Ernie Conwell is a solid veteran who we are hoping returns to form from knee surgery. If nothing else he should be able to tutor Blakely and keep Blakely's progress improving
