Carr Wishes Hayes Landed On Him Instead Of Tearing Acl

This rule needs to be changed, it’s so dumb. It defies the rules of physics. If they really want to protect the QB might as well make it so that 2 hand touch counts as a sack.

The old rule against driving a QB into the ground is fine because it covers intent, but this new rule makes it impossible for a play to complete a standard sack.

DeShaun Watson also spoke up about the change in the rule. It's silly, no doubt. It has cost the packers a win, and the Dolphins a starter.

Awful rule. Probably the worst in sports. Embarrassing for a grown man sport. Did you guys watch that Steelers/Bucs game? Got called like 10 times.

Classy move Derek. These qb's make more money on average than any other position on the field. They can absorb some players landing on them from time to time. Where did the toughness go?

I agree. I'm for most player-safety rule changes, but this one doesn't make sense, and you captured the key point. The rule that forbids defenders from driving the QB into the ground is sufficient. Some injuries will happen. The NFL needs to direct its attention toward debilitating, long-lasting injuries (especially head injuries).

Also agree with posters praising Carr. I've never been a fan of his game, but I've been impressed with everything I've read of him as a person.

I kinda poke fun at Carr for wearing eye-liner, but he does seem like a genuinely good person. I appreciate that he was willing to come out and speak in defense of the guys trying to kill him on third downs. The big guys need some protection from injuries, too.

I hope that Hayes is the last defensive lineman who gets hurt because of this misguided change to the rule. 100% agree with j-off and Skape, leave the rule prohibiting the defender from driving the QB into the ground, but don't ask these guys to pull off some insane contortionist act when making a simple tackle.

If Aaron Rodgers has brittle bones... I'm sorry, NFL, that's just unfortunate.

When the opposing quarterbacks come out and make statements like this, it really concisely shows what a sham of a new rule this is and how the NFL can't get out of its own way in trying to ruin the game.

I'm guessing that the NFL will continue to champion the rule, but privately will instruct the refs to stop calling it unless it's obvious.

Like I said in another thread, the irony of it all is the team that keeps getting penalized for this is the Packers and they were the most vocal about the QBs needing more protection because if The Barr hit on Rodgers

It would be awesome if teams would decline the penalty if they know it's bs

Isn’t it ironic that clay Matthews is getting flagged every game for this new rule...a rule created because his QB got hurt from it? Lol

There is a difference between tackling/falling on a QB and pile driving them into the turf with an intent to injure.
Too bad the NFL is too clueless to know the difference
