When Jakeem Grant scooted around several Giants defensive backs for 68 yards on four receptions in the preseason opener, it was easy to get excited.
When Mel Kiper started comparing Leonte Carroo to Charles Barkley – a physical player who could box out defenders – and others likened him to longtime NFL standout receiver Anquan Boldin, it was easy to get excited.
Both had impressive numbers as receivers in college: Grant caught 90 passes for 1268 yards and 10 touchdowns in Texas Tech’s pass-happy offense last season. Carroo had 29 touchdown receptions in 30 games at Rutgers, with a 19.5 average.
But we haven’t seen much of anything from the Dolphins’ rookie receivers in the passing game the past two weeks, largely because of lack of opportunity.
Grant has played six snaps of offense the past two weeks combined. Carroo played eight against Atlanta, fewer than AJ Cruz, who was cut two days later.
And both are antsy for a chance to log lots of offensive snaps in Thursday’s preseason finale against Tennesssee.

Get the ball to Grant in space and he will make things happen. Carroo can catch in traffic. All they need is a chance

Ozzy rules

I knew Grant has only gotten a few snaps since the opening game, but I didn't realize they were being stingy giving snaps to Carroo also. A bit odd that they aren't giving more snaps to two rookie WR's that are 100% going to be two of the 6 WR's they are going to carry on the 53. Looks like they don't want to show the league what they have in these players just yet.

Is that due to a smokescreen? That Grant is going to be a secret weapon we don't want to show anybody yet? That's a reach maybe. But could be why

I find it odd that neither have received many snaps. Something is up. You'd think they would want two rookies to get a ton of reps like Tunsil is. It's not a stretch to think they are hiding both players a bit at this point. I could see them having and redzone package with Carroo in it for instance.

Carroo will see the field early this year as DVP & Stills are sure to be out either a play, a series, a game, or several games this year.

Carroo has done nothing so far, hope he has a good time tonight

It makes no sense for these kids to have no played more on offense given their talents, which in turn makes A LOT of sense.

We invested pretty heavily in Carroo with draft picks next year and Grant's talent has been obvious from before training camp. I think holding them back was by design.

I don't know about "nothing" but it's concerning to not hear his name mention much through most of TC and preseason games. The guy is a high draft pick and by the sounds of things early on doesn't have the expolosion needed at the NFL level. Which means he's going to need every ounce of technqiue, positioning etc to make plays at this level.

I don't think that's a reach. Grant is a package player. I think he should still be getting more snaps in a more traditional WR role, but he's going to be primarily a gadget player.
