Carson Beck to compete with Tua ?

Hell no!!!!! I’d rather take a chance on Green or make a trade with Dallas for Milton. If I’m gonna take a chance. I want a super freak!
Green is definitely the quarterback I'd gamble on after round one. You can't teach his athleticism or size, and see the tight window throws in highlights. I think the Kapernick comp is pretty good. Will he develop enough to beat you from the pocket?

The inconsistency is there, but maybe initially you treat him like Buffalo did Josh Allen as a rookie. One read and run.

Allar is the other one I'd take a chance on.

Not a bad idea.

While he's not exactly what a team is looking for, neither was Brock Purdy. To me, Beck could carve out an Andy Dalton type career.

Most likely a quality backup type, but agree with OP that he could compete in 2026. Beck has a lot of college starts.

Personally, I'd go Allar or Green as higher upside quarterbacks.
I’m a big PSU fan and I have never liked Allar (as a QB). There is just something off with him. He can make spectacular throws and look like a dude who has never played QB in the same drive.

Allar is quite a dilemma. I read that as a pitcher he struck out a ton of batters, and walked a ton. Kind of the same with his quarterbacking, the highs and lows. You see the potential, but can he iron things out? Do you gamble on 6-5, strong arm, and decent athleticism?

Allar would probably be considered high ceiling, low floor. Where Beck is probably the opposite, low ceiling, high floor.

Mendoza will be out of our reach and instead of reaching for a QB in the mid teens, what about drafting Carson Beck in the mid rounds to compete with Tua in 2026?

Due to Tua's contract he probably returns next year but with how poorly he has played this year, Carson Beck could probably beat him out.

We also have so many other pressing needs to address in the early rounds of the draft.

After a mid season slump he has played better down the stretch. He threw a bit too many picks 10, for my liking. He did however have the 8th highest passer rating in college football.

His game needs some refinement but he does possess an NFL physical skill set in terms of his size arm strength and decent mobility.
Big Canes fan here! For the most part, Beck looks and plays like a pro QB. Played well in big games, but... he can have some bad moments. Big, strong guy with decent arm. Slow in the pocket. Not sure I want that for our next guy. May be a few other guys in Rd 2-4 that could better options such as:

Brendan Sorsby
Cade Klubnik (not a great year, but good talent)
Sawyer Robertson
Josh Hoover

I give Sorsby the edge in this group. He's also 6-3, 230. Jaden Craig from Harvard could be a sleeper.

Green would be my day 2 target as well. He’s got a lot of traits. Big lean guy, as fast as a receiver (elusive at that, good arm talent, soft touch and ball placement where he can layer throws between two defenders. Makes plays inside and outside of the pocket. Never thought he’d have a great 2025 season because Arkansas offensive talent is just so bad. They really didn’t replace Andrew Armstrong or Isaac TeSlaa with suitable options.

There’s a lot to like there. He’s obviously a bit raw but he’s an athlete who can sling the ball all over the field.

I think my current preference would be to take a shot a QB on day 2 in 2026 and plan to draft a QB in the first round in 2027.

Absolutely. There's a lot to like and you see it all. As you said, the layered throws, moving and throwing on the run, plus, plus athleticism etc.

Initially, if Tua starts in 2026, I could envision packages with Green. Imagine an actual quarterback sneak!

At this point I’d take Jeff Beck over Tua

and he’s unwell, very unwell. Really, really unwell. In fact you don’t get more unwell

I live in Arkansas and I've seen a lot of Green. he usually holds the ball too long and gets sacked or if nobody is open he takes it upon himself to run it. I think he might be another Tua. He gets hit too much and I see a concussion waiting to happen. The defense is a lot bigger in the pros and hoit a heck of a lot harder.

i think having Tua potentially behind a highly drafted QB would be the worst mistake you could make from a distraction stand point - And assuming the rookie were to beat Tua out, is tua the guy you want showing your young franchise QB the ropes?
