Long time now, that I've been lurking Finheaven, feeding on the knowledge of some, and smiling at the passion of most. At one point, I considered leaving, as the board became all but a mirror image of this team we love so much. People were divided, senseless arguments were being fought, we as fans were lost. Then something magical happened, and the Dolphins started winning again, pulling improbable win after improbable win against highly regarded opponents, extracting victory from the grasp of defeat against opponents to be of a lesser caliber. This leads us to today, with the Fins standing tall at 6 wins and 4 losses, on the brink of a game with tremendous playoff implication against the hated Belicheck and his mighty Patriots. This four game winning streak has appeased the masses, and created tremendous expecations for this young team.

As pleased as I am to see the rapid progress made by this group, as excited I am to see the potential offered by superior coaching and talent evaluation, I can't help myself to fear it's only smoke and mirrors. Can you blame me ? I remember my excitement when we got the greatest football coach on the planet (So we thought) as a Christmas present. I remember the promise of a 9-7 season, the satisfaction of finally snatching the franchise Quarterback we so sorely needed. And then I watched disgusted, my dreams of national prominence crumble with every DC sack, one humiliating defeat after the other. I welcomed Cam Cameron sure he would fix an anemic offense, and bring with him the winning culture of the San Diego Chargers. Once again, I saw it all go it fumes, during probably the most disgusting display of american football I had ever witnessed. I watched guys like AJ feely, Cleo Lemon trying to be successors to the great Dan Marino.

I watched the Parcells hire thinking this was yet another desperate move to salvage this franchise. Too late, I thought... But here we are Dolphin nation, on the verge of the biggest game since forever, pumped up, ready to seize what was once ours, the AFC East. You must however understand fellow dolfans, that this game means so little in the grand scheme of things. This team still has many glaring weaknesses, and is still rebuilding. God knows I would hate to lose this game, but if we do, choose to see the positives and not the negatives. Don't start throwing around posts labeling Jake Long as a bust, don't start clamoring for Henne, get off the secondary's back for these guys are finally playing with passion, and true professionals that they are. They are playing like a TEAM, they are prepared, they execute, and most of all they are learning to win.

This team will get even better next year, with another infusion of young talent, and key free-agents. I hear some people dreaming of a big time receiver with an early pick, but I know Parcells and Ireland will produce another heavy defensive draft. Next year's draft is loaded with Linebackers, and we all know BP loves Linebackers. Don't think it's an area of need ? What happens if Crowder goes down ? What about putting a real force opposite of Porter ? We all saw what happened when ferguson went down, so expect more DLine help. But most important of all, watch the secondary being remodeled, as young physical corners are added. This is why I'm excited, not because of the unexpected wins, but because of the direction I see this team going to. I see a plan, and I like it. In three years time, this team will be a powerhouse, will have depht, and will be built for the battles of January.

As sure as I am that this team is not "there" yet, I am sure that they will indeed get "there". In the mean time, enjoy the ride and the wins, and if you get pissed off after a heartbreaking loss, just think of Cam Cam and Cleo, and how far away this team is from these clowns today.

Let's go kick some Patsie butt on sunday...

One of the best written posts I have read in a very very very long time. Even if we dont make the playoffs, how could you not look at this year as a HUGE success. I get so excited just thinking of how good we are going to be in about a 2 years.

Great post.. But my response to that is why not here and why not now?!?!?!?! Who's with me????!!

LETS GO FINS!!!!!!

Stop lurking. Keep writing.

I agree that we are moving clearly and decisively in the right direction with a firm hand in control for our long term success. I also agree however that we are still a ways away. 1 draft can't make up for the huge talent deficit we've dug ourselves into over the years.

Just as last years team was probably a little better than their 1-15 record, losing many close games, this team is a somewhat lucky, if not weak, 6-4, getting some wins we probably didn't deserve. Not saying we're not much better, just not as huge a turnaround as it looks on paper. I fear this week's game may bring us down to earth a little. But that's OK, this season's a success already- everything else is gravy for me.

It has been a long time since I have posted as well.

I guess it is time to express my opinion. I too frequent the boards, but rarely post. In my opinion what is best about this team is their belief in each other. It has been a long time since we have witnessed a team that supports one another and during critical points in the game reaches down deep and provides maximum effort. As much as I enjoyed the Zach Thomas' and the Jason Taylors' I felt they at times overshadowed the team. I prefer rooting for this team. I get great satifaction watching this current team struggle, fight, and out work thier opponents. Even during the loses the committment and effort is there. It is refreshing that the focus is not on individuals but is on team accomplishments. The after game talk is no longer on how many sacks JT got, the amount of yards yards Ricky ran for or whether the coach is going back to college or not. Instead is about leadership, the defense UNIT stepping up, the offense UNIT making a critical drive, or some unsung player coming through. Even the negatives are presented as a team issue/concern (i.e. coverage UNIT). Give me players like Tommy Vigorito, Jim Jenson, Andra Franklin, Patrick Cobbs, Wes Welker and Tony Nathan. Understanding roles never complaining and being team players cannot be underestimated. These aforementioned attributes can be seen in this current group of players. Brown and Williams are content sharing carries, the QB is respected and leading, the WRs have work their buts off, and rookies and vets alike respect eachother Finally our coach and front office not only understand the importance of being on the same page but model this concept to the players. The media talk about the ego of Bill Parcells, however, I have yet to see him blow his own horn. Instead he has went about his business in a professional manner.

To sum up my feelings it is refreshing that Miami has a TEAM and not a collection individuals.

Hey I love the thought the thread starter put into his post and it was great, well written and dead on but, this is the kinda attitude I have. Sparano has been preaching to the guys since day 1 when he got here why not us, why not now, why not this year? I for one would be dissapointed with a loss but I would also take it with a grain of salt. I want this team to be as successful as they possibly can. If they make the playoffs I will be rooting for them to go all the way and win the Superbowl if they don't I will still be bleeding aqua and orange. I want a lot, I know, but this is a game nothing more. So I will root the Phins on and stand by them no matter what happens.

Excellent post. The one thing that is different this time around is Bill Parcells. He has won everywhere he has been, this isn't a mirage or a fluke, he knows how to build winning football teams. Win or lose Sunday make no mistake, this team is better than they were a year ago and will keep getting better. Keep the faith.

GO PHINS~!

that was a good post and i enjoyed reading it,but in my mind, this team is already a success...regardless of how the rest of our season goes, our team has performed superbly in my book in getting to where they are now...

Thank you all for the kind words. I guess I needed to write this post to get out some of the frustration that built up over during those terrible, terrible years...I'll do my best to keep the posts coming...

Go Fins!!!

I appreciate the write up and the heartfelt sentiment... I would only caution that preaching for sanity, level headed argument and cautious optimism is equivalent to pi**ing in the wind. The reason is PASSION.

The truth is, I demand my players have it, I pray my coaching staff has it, I hope my ownership has it and I expect my fellow fans to have it. Emotion and passion are rarely accompanied by rationality.

Visiting the boards late on a sunday can be an adventure, (especially after a loss) but argument disenssion and fighting CAN be positive. it makes you defend your opinion and really remember why at the end of the day we all really love this team.

Even in the heat of battle and I find myself defending Pennington for the umpteeenth million time... I remember that the guy on the other side just loves the same team that I do. And he, like me, has been suffering for YEARS... Waiting for his team to return to respectability.

So while I agree cautious optimism is the way to go, I give alot of latitude to fellow posters... Argument is positive and can be fun. At the end of the day I would prefer passion to indifference.

Lastly I would say to you... It's time to get off the sidelines and into the game. Your thread was well thought out and argued and we can never have enough of that... Get in there kid!
