Hard not to be proud of the effort and season the Miami Dolphins had. It's been a long time since we could say that as fans.

Looking at the season, the development of young talent, winning close game and the change in culture were all huge positives. Kudos to Adam Gase and his coaching staff. Miami may have finally hit gold with the coaching search.

Not sure the record is indicative of where the team really is, though. Certainly, the team could have easily gone 8-8 when you look at the San Diego and Cleveland games, both which should have been won by the opponent. That's not meant as a negative, but just to put in perspective that the team has a ways to go. In particular the defense is an absolute mess.

The question now becomes how fast can the front office put the defense together? Another question, how can Miami better match-up with the quicks and speed that New England and Pittsburgh feature on offense? I'd say one of the most difficult things for me to watch this season was how easily Brady, in particular, carved up the Dolphins defense with very short, conservative passes. His quick receivers turned those into big plays pretty consistently against Miami. That has to change.

So how do you build the defense and counteract that huge weakness moving forward? I think that's the key to the offseason. Would love to have more talent at tight end, but that can wait. The priority needs to be defense, defense and more defense.
