I know the thread title is quite confusing so I'll explain. Remember last year when Ricky retired and we had all those injuries at WR we fans started scouring the waiver wire and other teams rosters for potential candidates at those positions. I think the list of RB was more extensive including the likes of Robert Edwards, Terry Kirby, Trung Canidate, James Jackson, Verron Haynes, Anthony Thomas, etc. This year, we are doing the same for help in our secondary. The names I've heard of thus far have been Bobby Taylor, T-Buck, Aaron Beasley, Anderson? (the guy cut by the Rams). Did I miss anyone? Let me know.

thats what happens when desperation sets in... people dont realize that we arnt tryin to win it all this year or even make a playoff run. we are rebuilding. we need to stop signing old vets and start developing our younger players. We definatly needed a few stop-gaps in place to make our team competitive and ensure that the development of our younger players was constructive... but we have enough now. We dont want our whole starting defense to be made up of stop-gaps, because that leaves us with nothing next year and the years afterwards... We should be focusing on developing players like Daniels and Yeremiah Bell not trying to sign more players like Bobby Taylor and T-Buck...

thats what sabans going to do. It doesn't matter who expresses their opinion on this site about whom we should pick up, because saban doesn't want to pick up more players. The only reason we even signed shulters was because saban knew he was getting a star quality player for next to nothing. people talk about bobby taylor, but apparently they didn't read the tiny article a few days ago saying bobby taylors called in a couple of times looking for a spot, and sabans just turned him away.

I'm sort of strangely happy we have the talent we have right now in the secondary. When we had Madison and Surtain play every down, if one of them got hurt we were screwed. Now with Surtain gone and Poole hurt the importance of an effective DB scheme is all the more important. It takes great coaching and an awsome scheme to do what the Pats did last year. I'm happy we are going through this, it'll be a painful learning process but will eventually lead to being able to slot anyone in and be competitive.

yeah, and I can't get over how it seemed like as soon as surtain came back from a knee injury, madsion would get hurt. It was on and off all the time. their last two season together was as if they were taking turns.

The only real difference is this year we have a coach that not only knows how to evaulate that weak spot, but also how to coach it (If he sees potential)
