Can a cap-whiz please explain how the CBA is currently working. I understand that it is negatively affecting our cap this year, please could someone explain? Perhaps display the differences in cap space...
K so heres how it all goes down.
The current
CBA gives for a certain amount of
revenue sharing between owners (not sure how much) but it is not enough for the small markets. What this means is that teams like the
Patriots, Cowboys and other big market teams who generate a lot of
local revenue are forced to share a percentage of those earnings with the other, lesser owners like
Cardinals. The owners offered
56.2% of the sharing and the PA wants
60% and the two sides cant come too an agreement.
How this effects the cap? If a new deal is reached the cap for the
2006 season would be around
$110 million. If it is not reached, it will be set at
$94.5 million. This would give us very little room to spend dollars in
free agency. What this also means is that in
2007 there will be
no salary cap. Which means the NFL will be just like MLB where there are a few teams who have a shot each year oppose to the competitive banter of the NFL. So this is very important to the
Dolphins,
NFL, but most defintly the
fans.
I hope that helps you out a little bit
