Miami Dolphins

Best player: OLB Jason Taylor. Weak link: OLB Joey Porter.
The skinny: If Taylor remains in a Miami uniform, he will be the best of this 3-4 group. If he's not, that title goes to nose tackle Jason Ferguson, who comes over from the Cowboys. Porter is overrated and can't get it done anymore, which is why he's the weak link. Ends Matt Roth and Vonnie Holliday are solid in this defense. But look for rookies Phillip Merling and Kendall Langford to push for time. Randy Starks will back up at all three spots. The Dolphins will be better up front this season, but it would be hard for that not to be a reality.

JT is NOT a 3-4 DE......LOL.
Neither is Joey Porter a 3-4 DE.

The starters on the DL in the 3-4 are:
Holliday......Ferguson.......Starks

(Roth will be a backup, not Starks)!
JT and Joey Porter are OLBs in the 3-4. Why are they talking about them???
 
I don't agree with this ranking at all. We should have been rated in the lower 20's. The Dolphins did not receive any respect from cbssportsline, granted we were 1-15 last year but the Ol and DL were the 2 areas we most improved areas over the offseason. I would like to see how this ranking compare with the end of the year stats. There is no way we finish this season ranked so low in those 2 areas. this just shows a lack of research and knowledge on Prisco's part!

Unfortunately when you go 1-15 you haven't earned respect. And until the season starts we're still an 1-15 team.

Don't worry though, We'll know soon enough where we stand, and come Sept 7, everyone is 0-0.

best part...JP can't play anymore but Roth is good for this defense. LMAOOO worst thing ive heard in quite some time. how do these ppl get jobs?

ifound that funny myself. i would say roth has been anything but solid.they must be going by madden ratings..solid he says. hopefully with better coaching he can become solid.

Well then explain how a team that won just 7 games each of the last 2 seasons, has only 2 wins against teams with a winning record in those 2 season and has the 30th and 31st ranked offense and defense also over the last two season suddenly has the 18th ranked Dline? And also has a top 10 RB? Obviously not every team needs to change the mindset before they are given a better ranking then they've earned.
 
I'm getting the feeling this article was written in like the third week of last season when it sure looked like Joey Porter couldn't play anymore. For whatever reason people missed the second half of the season where Porter was pretty much the best player on our defense. I guess nobody wanted to watch an 0-8 team.....
 
I would not say Porter is not an ok player still but he is quite overrated. I was lauging the other day when some sports show brought up Porter with MMA. I did not know you could take your whole crew into the octagon to win a match although I would pay good money to see Levi versus Joey one on one just so Porter can be exposed as the fraudulant bas azz he is labeled. I love the Phins but Porter is so overrated.

if u watched him in Pitts and used the term overrated id never look at one post of urs again. overrated? the man was a monster in Pitts and that was behidn a good team. wtf u expect him to do wiht the team we had last year? the new system? palying out of position? and after surgery? do you even know much of anything when you call players out?
 
He's over rated in the regard that some people considered him as one of the top linebackers in the NFL, which he clearly isn't. He's a solid player, solid pass rusher, great in certain schemes and weak in others, not one of the best OLB's in the league but at the very least a very good one. I think a lot of people are still a little angry about the money we gave him, which may have been too much, he might be more over paid than he is over rated.

actually they are considering OLB's as the DL in a 3-4 defense, Merriman is included in the charger's evaluation and they explain that 3-4 defense includes OLB

Then they should have called it front 7 rankings and not Defensive line Ranking. JMO.

Porter is a solid player but is not an elite player in the NFL, if you dont agree fine but believe me Im not the only person that believes that. Excuse after excuse for certain people on this board, we cut Zach he is washed up but Porter is the most feared player in the NFL lol. Pittsburgh let him go for alot of reasons and believe me if he were that awesome still he would still be there.
