The Skinny: The Dolphins made keeping their own a major priority. They re-signed receiver Kenny Stills and defensive end Andre Branch and also gave safety Reshad Jones a contract extension. I like teams that take care of their own. They also traded to get tight end Julius Thomas from the Jaguars. Thomas played his best football in Denver when Dolphins coach Adam Gase was the team’s offensive coordinator. They signed Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons and also added Titans tight end Anthony Fasano, one of the best blocking tight ends in the league. Timmons has slowed some, but he will be an upgrade in Miami. They also traded a sixth-round pick to get pass rusher William Hayes (and a seventh-round pick) from the Rams. They had a nice start to free agency.
Grade: B+. They have improved their team, but are they good enough to dethrone the Patriots?

agreed but need a guard. I think we will get one from cuts and draft

I like some of the moves too. Not a total fan of the Larsen or Nate Allen pickup but hopefully those are for depth. G, LB, and Safety are in need of upgrading still.

Like what the team has done early on, with the exception of offensive line. Maybe a Nick Mangold would at least be a decent stopgap allowing the team to draft an offensive lineman in the mid to late rounds.

I'd give it a C+ as of this moment...we made 8 moves, I liked about half of them.

Liked:
Trade for J Thomas
Trade or Hayes
Fasano
Resigning Stills at 8m per.

Disliked:
Branch over Sheard/Warford/Leary
Timmons, no out after 2017.
Allen

No real opinion (if he's depth):
Larsen

According to that article, only 2 teams did better:
New Orleans and Minnesota

Also received a B+:
New England, Minnesota, and Buffalo

Hey Snoop - you dislike the Timmons signing? Timmons is an angry tackler who should improve our Run D. I don't think its a blow the roof off mover in any way but I like that we addressed the Lb Spot with a Very Seasoned and successful Vet who offers leadership especially due to the fact that we should be drafting a LB'er in the first or Second... I'm with you on Branch. Don't mid the signing but I feel the money is better spent elsewhere.

None of this matters one way or the other. You have the play and win the games out on the field. Don't care when the media likes our move or when they don't. It doesn't mean anything

Ozzy rules!!

Bull****. Super Bowls are won in March.

He's an upgrade to the trash we had last year, but he won't be our run game savior by any means. He's played his entire career free-flowing behind a 2 gap DL. He'll have to shed blockers on a more regular basis and maintain a single gap. There will be some major transitioning for him as a LB in our scheme.

Concerning the rest f our FA . . . meh.

Solid moves in retaining our own in Jones, and Stills, but Branch was got more than he deserved despite the "intangibles" mentioned in an earlier article. We'll miss Sims' versatility. He should have been retained.

G Larson and FS Allen both look to be starters for the time being and that is not a good thing. More poor patches.

Not sold on either Thomas or Fasano. Thomas has to stay on the field (which is something he has never been able to do in his entire career) and Fasano . . . well, say hi to strictly heavy form usage only. That's his only strength.

I'm neutral on Hayes. Seemed like a good deal, until we voided his second year. Now if he does play well, we're forced to either pay him more or he turns into another temp patch.

We still need DL depth at both End and Takle. Can't imagine drafting a DT this year, but we sure as hell better draft an End early.
