The Dolphins started working on their nickel package during the morning session. Jason Allen mostly got the call as the fifth DB.

With LG Justin Smiley back on the field, the offensive line showed particular crispness during run drills. Smiley and C Jake Grove opened a huge hole for RB Ronnie Brown; two plays later Grove and G Shawn Murphy did the same on the right side.

WR Ted Ginn again consistently got behind his man during one-on-one drills, at one point leaving CB Will Allen hustling to close the gap. Though Allen got a hand on the ball, after the play he kicked the goalpost padding in frustration.

Rookie WR Brennan Marion dressed in shorts and did not participate in the Dolphins' morning session. He spent parts of practice catching passes from a member of the training staff, but did so while standing in place.

Ginn still doing his thing, and consistently doing it which is most important... cant wait to see him in a game continue it...

Good news about the run game too, thats going to be the driving force on our team, we have to get good push from the big uglies up front...

Allen still getting chances... lets see if he can stop blowing those chances

JA is a special teams player only at this point. as the 5th DB youd hope hed never get on the field. JA is a good STs player IMO though, hes useful, just not his pay rate.

I never know which way to go with these things....when you o-line is openinghuge holes, its good, but who is getting blast on the d-line...when wrs are catching passes for huge gaims, why are the dbs getting smoked....im such a mess!

Jason Allen and Matt Roth are both non playmakers they havent impressed with these guys

Roth not making huge plays other than sacks I kind of like. If you watched the games, teams later in the year, teams would not run at him so much.

I can't believe we made Jason Allen rich!
He deserves to be broke like the rest of the country.

Teams most definitely ran away from Matt Roth. There is a ton of value in that. If you can't stop the run you can't win in this league.

heres more

The Dolphins spent one period working from a hurry-up set, calling two plays in the huddle and hustling to the line between snaps. The drill featured an odd twist, though - the plays themselves were run in slow motion.

WR Ted Ginn had to fight off tight coverage to bring in a Pat White pass, and Sean Smith got a little payback on WR Brian Hartline's earlier grab by getting just enough ball to send the ball off Hartline's fingertips.

Even when he can't prevent a completion, rookie CBSean Smith is making his foes work for it.

The Dolphins' pass rush picked up the energy toward the end of morning drills. DE Lionel Dotson recorded a sack of QB Chad Henne, pushing G Ike Ndukwe into the pocket.

LB Joey Porter picked up the day's first sack during 11-on-11 drills, doubling back against T Jake Long to lay a hand on QB Chad Pennington.

Rookie WR Brian Hartline had another solid outing, including a nice adjustment to fight off tight coverage and make the grab in front of fellow rookie Sean Smith.

I'm confused just like you are. I read some of the notes on yesterday's camp threads and the running game was basically going nowhere. No gain, 2 yd gain, etc. Now a day later huge holes are opening up? I don't see how there can be that much improvement in the run game overnight. Maybe the D was told to hold back so as to not demoralize the O.

Wasnt smiley missing yesterday. I think him being thier makes a bit of difference.

Smiley was off due to the birth of his child. He is back at practice today and the running game is "gellin'".

(like the Dr. Shols commercials)
