i guess your right, but if he was so good, why would he split carries?
if you've got 2 great change of pace backs why let either of them sit on the bench, you can use caddy as a scat type back and when you need to wear the D out you can use a bruiser, didn't auburn go undefeated i think so and the great running back tandem they had played an integral part in that

Dude, Benson's stock is dropping faster than K-Marts. Ronnie Brown went to the scouting combine and showed everyone that he is the best RB. What did Benson do? He wouldn't even work out. He didn't want to try and compete. So far he has paid for that decision.

how can you show someone your the best back WITHOUT PADS ON on a damn track? thats a dumb statement...

he showed hes a bigger faster back, but you cant show your a better running back running track and jumping high, be serious...

Why is every one saying Ronnie Brown this, or Ronnie Brown that. HELLO Cedric Benson is the answer to own needs. Not only is he fast but he is powerful. He is Ricky Williams w/o the pot problem. Tell me what you think.

Sorry, not the answer that most of those in the know have...Brown fits much better into Linehan's offense than Benson does...Now, if we still had NT here, he is a great fit in Turner's offense...but Linehan likes the big guy who if he can get by the first attempted tackle, can break it long... Brown fits this offense to a tee. Benson is not nearly as fast, straight away, as Brown...and 0.2 of a second make a big difference in RBs. Again, you are still thinking about "wad ball" as Saban likes to describe it...that would be fine for Benson and I agree, he seems to be a RW w/o the other problems....Brown also is a much better reciever...in fact, he has been described as the best receiver in the SEC last year....He is a much better blocker than Benson is as well, which is paramount to Linehan's scheme...I'm not saying that Benson is a bust or anything like that. He will be, IMHO, a fantastic pro RB, but Brown clearly is better suited to the Fins new offense than Benson.

You people take the combine way to seriously. Benson is one of the best RBs ever in the NCAA and hes about as close as you can get to a can't-miss. Look at Anquan Boldin, for example, he killed defenses in college, but ran a slow 40 time and didnt go til the 3rd round. And he still ended up being Rookie of the Year. So, you really should put so much into the combine.

Ron Dayne was one of the best RBs ever in the NCAA also what ever happened to him

good point, i think 2nd round though

first of all, if your gonna make a case for benson, you should know the facts first. Both ronnie and cady ran faster in both the 40 and shuttle runs and both had a higher vertical leap. i was all for benson until his recent workout...no doubt either brown or benson is gonna be a stud.....and at least we have the chance to draft either one and i think saban is smart enough to pick the best for his and linehan system....

So how is Benson a better back? So far nobody has really given any substantial reasoning for why Benson is the best back? Why didn't he work out at the combine? If it doesn't really mean that much then why didn't he run? Hey, the guy is a good back, no question. But IMO he hasn't shown that he is a better then Brown and Williams.

He showed it for 4 years by running for over 1000 yrds. each year.

For your info: Ronnie Brown had a 5.53 yd/carry for his college career. Cedric Benson had a 5.15 yd/carry in his career. Brown had 1/2 the carries that Benson had. Therefore he didn't get as much yards over his career., but he did get more yards per carry.

Texas also ran the ball almost every play, so teams knew what they had to do to win: stop benson. Well most of the time they couldn't even knowig he was getting the ball most of the time. He also almost always broke through the first guy and often it took 2 or 3 people to get him down.

Although in the championship game he was far from impressive... :shakeno:
