Miami's high-priced offensive line, with $70 million in guaranteed money invested in the starters, struggled all day. The Dolphins generated 96 rushing yards and allowed four sacks, including two by left tackle Jake Long.
Against a defense with five new starters, Miami's playmakers were ineffective. Running back Ronnie Brown had 53 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches. He had just one play longer than 10 yards - a 14-yard run on first down with Miami trailing 16-0.
Coming off a breakout season, tight end Anthony Fasano caught two passes for 10 yards and fumbled twice.
Ted Ginn Jr., expected to be the team' No. 1 wide receiver, totaled just 35 yards on two runs and two receptions.
The highly publicized Wildcat formation was no factor. Brown gained four yards on one direct snap and rookie quarterback Pat White was stopped for no gain on his first NFL snap, his only run Sunday.
Miami's offense finally put things together when it was too late. With
"I'm really just disappointed," guard Justin Smiley said. "We did some things today we didn't do at all last year. We have to figure out what we're going to be as an offense."
