So Chad Pennington joins the very long list of QBs we've had since the Marino Era. Lets see how he stacks up against the rest.

Jay Fiedler Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Fiedler
Im giving this to Fiedler because, well, Fiedler won football games. I know, "the defense won all those games," and "He didn't have to do anything." Well that simply isn't true, cause when Fiedler would get injured, we didn't win games. If Fiedler was doing nothing, then he sure did it better then whoever would come in for him.

Ray Lucas Vs. Pennington Advantage: Pennington (duh)

Not only is Pennington a better qb all around, but Pennington was literally the reason the jets cut Lucas oh so many years ago.

Brian Griese Vs. Pennington. Advantage: It has to be Pennington.

Brian Griese kind of amazes me. He's been a pretty decent QB everywhere else that he's played. (Denver, Tampa, and Chicago) But when he played here he was atrocious. If Pennington manages a game he'll be considered better than Griese.

Sage Rosenfels Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Pennington
If these two could combine themselves into one player, they'd be the best QB in the league. Sages arm strength with Penningtons brain and decision making, t'd be a good fit. Unfortunately Sage is a very one dimensional QB who, when game-planned for, is very easily beaten.

A.J. Feeley Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Pennington
No comment needed.

Gus Frerrotte Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Gus Gus
I'm giving this one to Gus because, while he wasn't perfect and he was a bit inconsistent, he played pretty well for us. In retrospective, we should have let him start another year instead of going after pointless dreams of Daunte. However these things happen.

Daunte Culpepper Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Pennington.
I'm judging Daunte completely what I saw of him as a Dolphin, and nothing else. He was joke here. Couldn't get the ball out of his hands, when he did he threw it right to defenders. The game seemed too fast for him, and he couldn't keep up. It was a nightmare.

Joey Harrington Vs. Pennington. Advantage: Pennington.
If it wasn't for Joeys amazing ability to take two steps back after one step forward, i'd have given a push here. It was something to see the guy throw 3 tds and then throw 3 Ints the following week. Like the words 'repeat performance" meant absolutely nothing to him.

As for Trent Green, Cleo Lemon and John Beck, I don't count anything that occurred under Cam Camerons Era. I simply don't believe it was possible for either of them to runa successful Offense when your Head Coach can't even run the team and hes the one calling the plays.

Now I know Pennington hasn't played a game yet, and it's not right to assume he's going to be better than most of these guys. However, Penningtons a guy that we know what we're gonna get. We're getting a smart Qb who can't throw the deep out route for his life. We're getting a pocket passing QB who has been injured quite a lot in his career. We're also getting a player who, despite his flaws, has managed to torch us for years.

All things considered, it could be worse. (and judging by some of the above names, it already has been)

But we haven't seen Pennington as a Dolphin yet, so comparing him to QB's who played poorly with the Dolphins as of course Dolphins is rather pointless. Daunte Culpepper for example i would think would be the best QB we brought in......UNTIL he proved he could no longer play well post knee injury.

It's a good evaluation with which I mostly agree. It drives home how many poor bandaid decisions we've made and that the reality of them working out is only slightly greater than winning the FL lottery. Hopefully he'll be a good game manager bringing the best out in RnR although that box is gonna be more crowded than a convention of Paris Hilton's liaisons so who knows.. We have no choice but to hope for the best and to be pleasantly surprised. I have been/am very skeptical of this move, but unlike some others frequenting this board, will be pulling hard for his, and EVERY Phin's successes..and be delighted to admit I was wrong.

However everything's relative and your analysis reminds me of the old truism:
:nailbiter: "The One-eyed man is king in the land of the blind" :nailbiter:

I always thought that if we'd have built a decent enough O-line, Griese would have been a good QB for us. He was a statue back there, and our atrocious O-line play showed. The Indy 2003 game is a good example.

Good analysis though.

actually, I don't really like Pennington. I just can't logically think of a reason to put some of these other guys ahead of him. I could have made a small case for Sage and Harrington, but nothing that I would have believed myself.

I just don't wanna see pointless INTs anymore. Penningtons usually pretty good about that at least.

that's true. That game pretty much sealed Wade Smiths fate on this team.

in defense of Griese, he looked great against San Diego, and then the next couple weeks was a victim of the Wade Smith school of blocking. If Chadwick can even duplicate what Gus did for us, I'll be happy. Hell, had Saban not reacted to the belief he had to get a vet QB and tried to trade up to get Cutler or Leinart, or had he just signed Brees, Gus would probably still be a fin.
