Chad was likely goner before arrest

Hopefully when the smoke clears we'll be able to poach the next Victor Cruz off some receiver-rich team's PS.

Chad Johnson does have a previous record that we all know about now, the conviction for domestic abuse in 2000. I found it emotional to watch that. Dude has done this for 12 years and it is hard to get cut when you are so passionate about what you do. It was definately compelling television, hard to fathom what it will be like in a week or so when we start seeing alot of the cuts

Derek Dennis was cut by Ireland, Chad by Philbin...wonder who will do them when they trim the roster.

Philbin will as the players where turned over to the coaches when training camp started.

Ireland

People seem to lose sight of the fact that this guy was barely worthy of a roster spot on even a WR starved team like the phins.

Lets face it. His skills at this point barely if at all warrant him a #4 or #5 spot on a team with a normal set of NFL receivers.

I love how everyone just penciled him in as one of our starters. If he were to be a starting WR, he wouldve easily been the worst starting WR in the league. Look up and down the rosters and tell me who's #2 receiver isnt better than Chad Johnson. The guy was the 5th option last year on a Pats team who wasnt overly stocked with talent at the position and loved to throw the ball.

The fact he cant play special teams makes it tough to keep him on an NFL roster at this point especially when you consider he refuses to play in the slot and wants no part of going over the middle. The guy is washed up. The only reason he had a shot here was because we have no talent at WR.

He USED to be a good WR. SEVERAL YEARS AGO. He hasnt done anything spectacular in several seasons. He was outperformed in Cinci a couple years ago by a past his prime T.O.

Chad Johnson had like 2 or 3 really good season quite a long time ago in NFL years. He just isnt very good at all anymore.

Fact is he could have the personality and character of Derek Jeter right now and his skills wouldnt earn him a roster spot on most NFL teams.

Your statement regarding Chad speaks volumes about Ireland as a GM. Ireland should not have wasted his time with Chad even if it was just for the HK show on HBO.

While Chad had his struggles here and there, all of the WRs have. I firmly believe that this decision was made because Chad has had multiple issues off the field with this team...AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED A GAME YET! I think Philbin looked at the prospect of having to have a serious discussion about a player for his conduct for a second time in the span of a few days and said it wasn't worth expanding that stress over the course of an entire season.

Disagree...Our WR position is such a question mark, that I don't really blame Ireland for bringing Ocho / Johnson in and kicking the tires on him. It was a no risk contract, with no signing bonus if I recall correctly, so aside from his daily training camp per diem, he cost the Dolphins nothing. See what he has, and if it's not gonna work, send him packing and they are out nothing.

I knew Philbin was no fan of Chad's antics, but the clips showing him struggling with his knowledge of the offense, and even the QB's discussing it was more telling. Antics aside, I don't think he was going to make the final 53 anyhow.

Remember when Garrard was watching film wondering what Chad was doing out there? The writing was on the wall.

I'm not sure Philbin ever wanted him on the team so wth was he doing here.
