I don't know, am I the only person who saw that Chambers did not get two feet in bounds while possessing the ball?

I keep seeing articles about how terrible Saban's challenges are, and how he did not challenege two plays in particular, the Heath Miller non-TD, where he obviously was down before the end zone, and then they mention Chambers sideline grab in the New England game.

Heath Miller TD? Yeah, should have been challenged. Replay clearly showed his knee was down before the ball crossed the goal line.

Chambers "catch?" Please. I love the Fins, but I always try to call them as I see them. Saban has really angered me this season, but not challenging Chambers non-catch does not bother me.

How can anyone who saw the replay say he had two feet in bounds? Chambers is quoted as saying he saw the replay and STILL believes it was a catch! Is he blind? Saban still maintains it was not a catch, and he was right.

Had Chambers gotten both feet down it would have been a sweet grab, but he didn't. I wish people would stop referring to this play as a Saban blunder. He has done a lot of stupid things this season, but that was not one of them.

Does anyone else agree?

I completely agree. I read the article and was annoyed that they brought this up. It would only have been overturned if there was clear evidence the initial call was wrong, and it wasnt even clear it was a catch to begin with. Good call by saban not to challenge.

I think the problem there is that Saban challenged the Ronnie Brown fumble which the first reply showed to be a fumble, but didn't throw the flag on a much closer play, Chambers' diving attempt at a catch.

After thinking about it, I believe that Saban did not throw the flag, because he only had 1 challenge left, since he threw the first one way. But there in is the problem. If he thought the second play was too risky to challenge, then why challenge the first play which was obvious.

Yeah, I totally agree.

And I agree with the other post above about the challenge on Ronnies Fumble. That one should not have been challenged.

If Chambers catch was ruled complete and New England challenged it MAY not have been reversed, but I would bet my SHED that if Saban challenged that call, it would NOT have been reversed.

The refs really don't like to overturn calls for several reasons...mainly, they don't want the majority of calls overturned because it means they are making bad calls on the field. It has to be OBVIOUS for them to overturn a call, and Chambers catch was NOT obvious. It was a great effort and may have been a catch, but the call on the field was no catch. Too close for the refs to overturn that one.

You're looking at that play incorrectly. One knee equals two feet. When Chambers was falling out of bounds, his knee hit the ground in bounds JUST before his elbows fell out of bounds.

That is a catch.

I still say you challenge the questionable ones just to keep the momentum going. If Chris Chambers really thiunks he's in on that play and Saban challenges and loses Chris gets a boost thinking the refs ripped him off. Anything to give these players energy is a good thing whereas challenging the obvious like Ronni Browns fumble is just a waste of a challenge. Saban is pretty poor at the whole challenge thing IMO.

When you don't challenge the questionable ones you arent supporting your players, and it has a reverse effect players go out there pissed off at the coach instead of the refs!

that was DEFINITELY not a catch.i can't believe alex marvez would even mention that as a saban blunder as far as replay is concerned. because it was ruled incomplete there had to be overwhelming evidence he caught it. to that end there was no evidence whatsoever to say it was a catch. this is just another example of the media being negative. marvez is an idiot.

Hello? Read my post above before calling anyone an idiot.

I don't think it's a catch. It looks like his knee hits out of bounds, plus his elbows hit first in my opinion. There is no way this call is overturned...Here is the play.

It isn't Saban who has the best look on the play for determining wether to challenge or not. He gets the feed from the boys in the booth who replay it several times and advise on the play. While it is ultimately Sabans call with the flag, it is not always his seeing it that guides his decision.
