Wow, way to go Wayne/Bailey whomever.
I can't believe Marino backs this guy!
Geez. Going backwards.

IMO I am not worried about style points. If vanilla gets us to the playoffs then ill take a dose of vanilla.

It's not so terrible guys. We went 11-5 and 10-6 with Jay Fielder, Lamar Smith, and James McKnight. Aren't you a little curious what Chan might be able to do with Culpepper, Brown, and Chambers? Our defense has remained constant since those years and the talent on offense, on paper anyways, is a lot better.

Talk about conservative. I hope Chan doesn't bring back the run-run-incomplete pass-punt offense again. Still, slightly better than Mularkey but not by much. He'll be a 8-8 or a 9-7 guy but I don't expect anything more than 9 wins unless we get some stud FA's on defense and a good QB+LT+WR in the draft.

Boring "vanilla offense">>>>>>590 passing attempts/402 rushing attempts (29th in scoring offense)

Run Run Incomeplete pass was more of a product of Fiedler I believe.

Plus run-run would be 3rd and 2 with Brown. And now we have welker booker chambers and no matter how maligned they are, can hopefully catch a 2 yard pass!

Though I still prefer Cameron. People are calling Cam boring and vanilla yet I hear innovative and SD's offense was anything but Vanilla. Lots of passes downfield and was fast. They have us on RB and TE, but R.Brown ain't too shabby and McMike ain't no chump. Who do they have on WR?

Well, it could turn out as run-run-sack-punt. Unless we get a real Pro-Bowl caliber OL or Daunte's knee goes bionic, I don't think offensive production will be good in that format.

I don't think the Chargers offense is that vanilla either. Especially compared to ours back in Wanny days. I agree they might have a better QB, RB, and TE but our RB and TE aren't so shabby plus, we field 2 ex-Pro Bowlers at WR. Thing is, they have McNeill as LT on that OL (and who I wanted instead of Jason Allen) and we have...LJ Shelton and D-Mac as stopgaps. Houck's a miracle-worker and really solidified that OL for SD for years but here he's got to pull miracles every down. Cameron won't have a good OL to work with here and he's got a QB that's really reliant on a top notch OL and a RB that isn't the kind that makes something out of nothing.

They've got Vincent Jackson who's going to be pretty good but he's unproven right now. If you have a Dynasty league, he might be a nice sleeper for next year.

I can't believe people are complaining that our offense MIGHT be vanilla when last season we were lucky to score thirteen pts. If vanilla can get us 20 pts a game, with our defense we could count on about ten wins.

In hindsight, saban did a really bad job managing games. He never put pressure on mularkey to call the right plays and we never won games early in the season. There's no excuse for us not to win home games early in the season, with the way the heat is down here... It's unheard of. No other coach but Saban lost early in the season. COmplete opposite of wanny and JJ.

That conservative Chan Gailey offense produced a 883 yard, 7 TD rookie year for Chris Chambers with Jay Fiedler throwing him the ball and over 2,000 yards in two years for Lamar Smith who did nothing before Gailey and nothing after him. Gailey may not be the sexiest pick, but he isn't a bad coach. Having a good X's and O's guy like Gailey running the offense and a great X's and O's guy like Capers running the defense means this team won't be getting outcoached on most days.

I disagree with your runningback statement. Ronnie has been hit behind the line countless times and he's turned it into a positive gain.

I don't care if he only calls Dive plays all year long as long as we start winning again.
