Change to 3-4 defensive alignment ?

The only way the Dolphins can really bring change to the defense is to go from 4-3 to 3-4. Really! The reason why ?

1-they don't have really good LBs to help with run support.

2-OV is really OLB playing DE

You will have SUH-Philips-Mitchel

Wake-Jenkins _Misi -OV

thats a scary front seven. The problem has been too many players are out of position. Earl is not and cannot play the Nose. You need a big NT that will demand 2T so Suh can be free to do his thing.

I am open to anything, and I hope Campbell is too.
They have two weeks to realize the same things haven't worked in last 13 games, where I think they are 4-9.
 
seriously? they're going to change their entire defensive system in a week?
 
Maybe if it was a hybrid 5-2 / 3-4. I don't know the schematics behind it. Just a thought
 
Aren't DC's and OC's skillful enough to do this? Aren't personnel experienced enough to be versatile. Doing the same won't result in anything different. I think if we play better and show better effort it will be more realistic than running the table. If we play better, but lose, we can start to see the areas of weakness.

You're ****ing kidding right?
 
Thought that was the problem now with Suh having to play one gaps and it was productive.

No, it was that Suh is "forced" to play two gaps.

The concern with 3-4 is that if Suh plays DE and lets say Phillips plays NT, Phillips will play 0 tech on center and Suh will have to two gap again at DE. I dont necessarily see it that way. Suh could play 3-4 and still play only 3 tech, it depends on responsibilities of other players, which means the alignment is irrelevant to Suh's success.
However, 3-4 would bring more bigger bodies at the line consistently which may help the run stopping.
 
you do what you pay Suh to do, and that is get after the qb and disrupt the middle. If you spend 110 mil on him, then you play him to his strength. You dont screw around with this 2 gap crap. It doesnt work and he is the one that is copping the flak.

You bring in a centrepiece, you play the other players around that strength. Simple really.

Except for Coyle....Not that simple.

Scary Front seven? How? Its the same in a 4-3 and look... Nothing is scary on this D
 
It's not the same. You swap out Shappard for a defensive tackle. Bart Scott was on WQAM last week suggesting the Suh would be a menace as a 34 end, lining up in different spots. The interviewer questioned Vernon and Wake as OLB in a 34. Scott said Demarcus Ware (for comparison to Wake or Vernon) is downhill 95% of the time and they'd be fine.

We are weak at LB in the 4-3, the 3-4 means we need more LB and they have to be very good in coverage.....I like the 3-4 but I don't think we have the personnel to run it at this point....
 
I don't see switching to a 3/4 would hurt. We are giving up 10 yards per carry with the current scheme.
We just have to find a 360 lb NT somewhere.
