Channing Crowder on 560

.
Bingo.. You nailed some of it.
Crowder was trained by Zach Thomas to interpret the offense and make the corrective moves. Lots of the people on here just looked at his tackle count, zero sack count and arthritic knees but one of his biggest strengths was his high football IQ interpreting the play. That is why the defense seemed to play better with him.
Who knows? Maybe Burnett will make progress...

The biggest dissappointment so far has been Karlos Dansby . . . he was supposed to fill those shoes while Burnett replaced Dansby as the primary cover backer. I would venture to say he has been the biggest disappointment on this defense so far this year.

I was listening this morning, he really has some excellent insight. Obviously, he does not like Ireland. He also is not a big fan of Henne, but he really is telling it like it is.

Kinda wish they didn't cut him now that Dansby is injured. He said on the radio that there is no chance of him coming back this season. The Vikings contacted him and said, we will call you in March 2012. He was already contacted by a bunch of other teams.

Maybe he comes back after Sparano and Ireland are fired midseason!!!

After all the stuff he's said about this team there is no chance he is ever coming back here. He burned that bridge. He was always a better talker than a player anyways.

Not even close. Our secondary has been God awful.

Yes this is true, but Vontae and Sean haven't been that bad. Plus you expect some growing pains from Carroll and Jones. Our superstar cover ILB's were supposed to be a big asset vs. the TE and now it seems that not only is that still a problem, they are having problems tackling in the run game also. They aren't really providing the pressure I thought they would and the defense just looks lost at times, poor communication . . . tho it is still early. Your Free Safety should not be leading the team in tackles. Outside of Franchise Paul Soliai, the 2 most expensive players on this defense I believe are Dansby and Burnett . . . these guys have to do better.

I know that reality is a beayotch sometimes, but lets shed a little shall we?

Clowning Chowder ranks in the bottom of all categories for ILB that played during his tenor.

He was released, asked to work out for exactly two teams, neither asked him back for a second workout. He is now unemployed after 6 mediocre seasons in the NFL, and he wants to call others out? Really?

They guy took TERRIBLE angles on every play.

He ran like he was dragging a freakin piano in his shorts.

When he did make a tackle, the play always landed him on his own back, not a good sign for an ILB.

Somebody wants to call Dansby out compared to Chowder? Really? Are you F-in kidding me? :err:

He liked to yap his mouth instead of make plays. He's really not even that entertaining, unless you are wearing certain colored glasses.

I don't know the stats or anything but dansby seemed to be a beast out there last season. I'm not putting much stock into how individuals are playing this season because I think half the team has given up and that's going to make everybody look bad.

I didn't call Dansby out in favor of Crowder, I called Dansby out due to his play this season. It has been less than spectacular, the defense has been out of place and there isn't a stat in the book that is going to prove otherwise . . . I'm looking at the ****ing game. This defense, 2 games w/o Channing Crowder has looked like complete ****. Now I am hopeful that will change, but lets not use individual stats to get away to what has been the truth 2 weeks into the 2011 season. Everybody knew why Crowder manned the middle of this defense for all these years . . . dude was a smart guy, and kept his unit in their places. He made the calls on defense and its obvious the defense misses him after 2 games. His knees were shot and he needed to be replaced, so the growing pains could be predicted but I feel comfortable saying this defense wouldn't have looked this bad if he was in the lineup these past 2 games.

He was in the middle for an entire 5 years cause the team chose to shore up other positions first.

Chowder was a very mediocre Linebacker, and he is NOT that smart. Dont kid yourself. There's a reason no other teams picked him up. He SUCKS!!!

You mean the same defense that ranked 31st in about every category since Zach left? That incredible defense?

I agree that the entire defensive unit has sucked through 2 games, and that does start with Dansby as he is the leader.

this was a top 6 defense last year, bad in 2009 but we were breaking in 2 rookie cb's and girbril wilson was a bust fa safety pickup the guy was terrible. This defense was good in 2008. 2007 was just doomed from the beginning, that isn't crowders fault plus zach was here I believe until he got hurt.

Crowder could have gotten work this year. He didn't wanna uproot his family and he just became a father. He is doing pretty good for himself making a career on radio. This defense better hurry up as that 'he sucks' argument is looking weaker and weaker as the weeks go by.

Whoa! Top 6 in one category. Let's not forget they were bottom of the barrel in take aways and impact plays.

It is no secret Chowder on the field stunk! When he wasn't tackling the ball carrier several yards down the field he was killing us with his coverage skills, or personal foul. Sure his knees were part if the equation, but so was his lack of work ethic. Someone please post that training camp picture of Chowder with that fat budda gut hanging out! If Channing was on this team he would be cramping from being on the Vernon Carey Golden Coral Diet!

That said, it doesn't mean Channing doesn't know football. Hell some of the greatest coaches were the worst players. It also doesn't mean he isn't close friends with current players and connected. I would take more stock in what Channing says then our clown beat writers because I am willing to be Channing gets it from the players!

Hell we had one good run in 2008, and we really haven't seen "impact plays" on this defense since the Wannsteadt era . . . back when the secondary had Surtain/Madison/Marion and JT was in his prime. That 3-4 defense down here seems contagious to turnovers or something.
